Multiple quizzes in single project in Captivate 5

Hi,

I'm trying to create a project in Captivate 5 whereby there are various knowledge checks after each chapter.

For instance, there are 6 chapters and after each chapter I want a short (5 or 6 questions) knowledge check. If this is successfully completed then the learner will be allowed to continue to Chapter 2 and so on.

Having only the one chapter this works fine, but when I put a second set of questions after the second chapter I lose the facility to redirect the learner if they fail the knowledge check.

I've searched through the forums to no avail and was wondering if anyone had any experience of doing this?

I've tried to allocate each question pool (6 for the 6 chapters) a seperate ID but the quiz preferences only allows this to be changed on a global scale within the project, making the quizzes a single entity.

The help document has a very brief piece on this where it talks about master quizzes and sub quizzes but doesn't give any details on how this is possible.

Hopefully someone can advise.

Cheers

Ah, yes we did get Captivate as part of the Adobe E-Learning Suite 2 and on checking we do have the Multi-SCORM packager 2 within it.

Is there a learning resource anywhere on how to use it?

I could do with some input on the Objective ID and Interaction ID also.

Any help you can provide would be most welcome!

Cheers

There's really not much to using the Multi-SCORM Packager.  If you've created your individual modules for your course as SCORM zip files, then all you have to do is pull them into the Packager, make sure they're in the correct order, and create a published package with an appropriate name, usually the name of your course.  Then you can upload this package into your LMS as a Multi-SCO zip file.  The LMS should be able to read the imsmanifest.xml file that the packager creates and see all of the components.  The LMS SCORM player will usually display the list of modules as hyperlinks that the user clicks to launch each one.

There's some basic information about using the SCORM packager in the Adobe Captivate help files.

As for the Objective ID and Interaction ID...I just make sure that each course module is set up inside Captivate with its own unique Objective ID (usually an abbreviated form of the module name) and that each quiz question or scored interactive component in the lesson has a unique Interaction ID.  Once again, this is easy to do with just an abbreviated form of the module name as a prefix.   Captivate adds a unique number after this prefix.

In most cases, if all you are after is Pass/Fail scoring, the Objective ID and Interaction IDs don't really matter too much. On the other hand, if your LMS enables you to dig down into the interactive elements to view what the user answered, then having meaningful IDs is a big help in knowing which module and question you are looking at.

You seem to have a large project file which you say is made up of a number of "chapters" each of which you want to have a quiz.

You need to be aware that each Captivate project file can only contain one quiz.

So, when building Captivate elearning content, you need to think of each project file as only one chapter in your course.  You'll need multiple project files and have the published content linked together in some navigation scheme.

If using an LMS to deliver the content, package your course modules together as a Multi-SCO SCORM and let the LMS SCORM player handle the navigation.

If not using an LMS, you can package the modules together using the Captivate Aggregator.

Ok.

Many thanks.

It seems it won't let me do exactly as I want.

Could you explain further regarding the packaging the course modules together as a multi-SCO SCORM?

Our LMS is SCORM 1.2 compliant but we have no support from the providers with regards to any other software than that which they provide (very poor).

This being the case it is a bit of trial and error.

I understand about having several modules but the whole packaging together is a bit confusing.

Many thanks for your help.

If you purchased your Captivate 5 license as part of the Adobe E-learning Suite you would have access to an extra software application called Multi-SCORM packager which enables you to take multiple SCORM zip files created with Captivate and package them up as a single SCORM.

This software utility also came standard with Captivate 4 but not with Captivate 5.

If you don't have access to it, there are some other software apps available on the internet that will do the same job.

Here's one: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Programming/Other-Programming-Files/Simple-SCORM-Packager.shtml
