Need help recording audio since upgrading to Captivate 5.5

I've been using Captivate for several years so I've become accustomed to recording vloiceovers for the slides in my projects. Over the year, the UI for the audio recording function had improved to the point where it worked quite well (v4.0).

Since upgrading to v5.5 this week, I've discovered some major (and welcome) improvements in the product. However, when I clicked the Record Audio icon, I was dismayed with the design of the new UI for this function.

Unless I am missing something, the new design has you open two modal dialog boxes in order to record audio for a selected slide, then Save and close both dialog boxes before you can select the next slide.

Please tell me I missed the place where you can view the slide note, record audio for the slide, then move to the next slide in a smooth (non-modal) movement as you could in v4.0.

No you didn't miss it.  But there is an option to record to Slides (note the plural).

Go to Audio > Record to > Slides.  A dialog pops up where you can specify the slide range.  By default it's everything.

The Slide Audio dialog that opens this way has buttons that allow you to navigate from one slide to the next.

For the record, I also think there are lots of improvements needed in the way Slide Audio recording should work.  But that's going to have to wait for Cp6 now.

Thanks Rod. Without your suggestion I would have completely missed this menu selection to "Record Sildes" which is found next to "Record Slide." Arghhhh... Seems unduly complex, eh?

I'm with you.  I see no reason to have two separate versions of the same Slide Audio dialog, one with the ability to navigate to the next or previous slides, and one without this ability.  To me this is just extra complexity for no added benefit.  They should make it possible for you to decide to go either way (one slide or mulitple slides) once you get to the dialog.

If it's any consolation, I had a lengthy gripe about this dialog and several other aspects of the audio recording process to the Adobe Captivate dev team before it was all released.  The way the Slide Notes are displayed also needs lots of improvement.

Hopefully Cp6 will get it right.
