New Captivate - deleting items

I'm playing with the new Captivate. How do you delete items, buttons, for example, from either the timeline of the slide itself?

Thank you, @WestsideCharlie_CL, for writing. @Lilybiri has already provided you with the answer. I'd like to add my 2 cents:

Let's take the example of a multi-column text content block.

To delete the content block, simply select the content block, and hit the Del/Delete key. It will remove the content block and its contents, ie, the multi-column text.

Now, if you want to hide the content inside the block, select the content block. In the Visual Properties panel > Components, select or de-select the components you wish to display/hide.

Two things:

  1. Selecting/de-selecting a component does not "delete" the content in its true sense. The action simply hides the content and the same reflects in the timeline.
  2. You can select any component on the timeline, but not delete it.

When it comes to buttons, on the multi-column text content block, you can add buttons from Visual Properties > Components. The same theory applies. You can display or hide the buttons, but cannot "delete" the buttons either on the slide or the timeline.

This is a new paradigm in the all-new Adobe Captivate.

Hi, I am trialling Captivate 12. I have a quick project open to practise editing it while following a tutorial. I cannot delete anything permanently. There are no check boxes to uncheck. I am stuck on deleting a title from a slide. When I press delete it deletes most of the slide, not just the text block. I have looked for grouping tools but can't find anything.

There is a difference between the 'blocks' which normally can be deleted and the 'components' like a button. For the components Delete will not work, you have to uncheck them in the Properties panel of the block in almost all the cases. Selection of something on the Timeline will not always reflect correctly on the stage and vice versa. I also prefer selecting on the (very convoluted) Timeline to be sure, but delete will often not work on individual items. In the PI you can better see what has been selected, but was this version not meant to be 'intuitive'?

Very helpful, Lilybiri. "Intuitive" indeed. Can't help thinking that the new Cp is ideal for certain types of projects while good old CpC is ideal for other types of projects.

Indeed, I don't think this new version can replace the older versions which have so much more features and ways to customize, to use other Adobe applications, advanced actions, shared actions and have a much more complete set of system variables, exposed or hidden. It would be great if both versions were continued and improved (CpC has too many bugs at this moment and the deleted features have not been replaced). At this moment the new version is more for an occasional project which is not requiring a lot of serious investment, just using the templates and the blocks with their design options, maybe a couple of small interactions (they take a lot longer than with a library of Shared actions). No roundtripping with PS, AI, AU as I use for all my projects.
