Question

New Captivate Mouse Object Length

Hi all - in Captivate Classic I was able to shorten my mouse length to 1 second and apply to all slides.  I cannot work out how to do this in the All New Captivate which is a nuisance.  Does anyone know if this is possible?  I asked ChatGBT but it could only give me answers from old Captivate which was no help.   Thank you

Just wondering: full control over the mouse object was possible in a Video Demo, not so much in a software simulation. Are you sure that you are not referring to the Video Demo, which is not yet available with the New Captivate?

Hi I appreciate the comment - no it is all Software Simulations that I do in Classic - I don't use templates, everything I do is using Software Simulations and I edit them heavily so they are short snappy videos.   In Classic after I straighten the path I then shorten the mouse length to 1 second using the TIMING tab but there is no option to do that in v12 - I can grab it in the timeline and shorten to 2 seconds but I then have to do that in every slide which is incredibly repetitive.  In Classic I can edit the mouse how i want on slide 1 and then apply to all slides very easily.  It's such a simple task that I find it incredible that I cannot do that in the new software.  Thanks

OK, thanks.  Personally I still use 11.5.5.553 for software simulations. One exception: if I need to do one for the New Captivate I use 11.8.2.  Too many problems with the sims in the New version, because of the exclusive focus on responsive projects. That has a bad consequence: when using Assessment or Training mode, and switching to tablet or mobile, the sim will automatically zoom and pan. You don't want that at all for an assessment, since it tells the learner already in which region they had to look for their action. Although I have reported this multiple times, no one seems to care.

It is indeed weird, because the software sim in the new version is a copy/paste of the workflow in all previous versions, except for the UI of course. The team even re-introduced the click box (which doesn't exist in the New version) for that reason. Normally a click box is prohibited in any responsive project because it stacks on top of something else. For a software sim that is not such a problem because the captured slides have the images as background images. I would also miss the Library a lot, because it allowed to see all the captured backgrounds in a sim, and allow editing them.

Most panels are gone... as you discovered there is no longer a Timing Properties, nor Position Properties panel.  Not easy for long-time users.

Hi @Laura Cee  I am assuming you're working on simulation projects in the new Adobe Captivate. If yes, select the mouse path.

You can toggle the Straighten the mouse path option in the Visual Properties panel. This will shorten the path length. You can then apply the change to all slides by selecting the Apply to all slides button.

Thank you.

I feel very sad - I don't understand why we can't still do simple things.  I'm now trying to add a smartshape but it's just impossible.  I don't want anything really fancy - I just want a simple simulation that I can edit to tidy up and add some pointers in.  Looks like I'll be sticking with old Captivate 2019 until it dies.  Thanks!

Nobody can be as sad as I am about what is happening now. You willl not be able to use the brake on a self-driving car.

If you can downgrade to version 11.5.5.553 please do. Captivate Classic (11.8.2) introduced so many bugs and deleted lot of features that I wonder if it is not on purpose. The day they kill the previous, I leave this forum. After two decades of supporting users, and thousands of hours of contributions.

Unlearn (forget) everything you knew was possible in Captivate when you work in the New Captivate. It is like getting into a self-driving car, close your eyes and hope it is doing its job.

Sorry for this joke, but that is it. No timing properties panel, no possibility to set up default times for objects, no possibility to apply something to all slides, to time for all slides, to apply a style change to all objects of the same type or with the same style.... Too complicated for an application which should be intuitive. Let AI set up the storyboard, and Captivate put it into learning asset. Will it be engaging, efficient learning? Who bothers?

Bit serious now, be very careful with asking anything about the new Captivate at any ChatGPT agent. You may have some laughing with this blog post where I tell about a chat I had with CoPilot about New Captivate. It felt to me like brainwashing the agent. I was lucky that it didn't branch to Dutch (my mother tongue) as often happens, so I could create an understandable blog for English speakers:

My conclusion: even AI doesn't understand how all existing workflows became useless just by changing the version number. Watch how 'it' learned from me to be careful about this new version.
