Question

New to AC 9...few general questions.

I was a frequent user of AC 6 up until a couple years ago.  Am looking at purchasing for my new company.  I see now they are offering AC on a subscription basis and it appears everything is cloud based.  My apologies if I have missed it but I have looked around for some general answers without luck....here goes...

  • If you use the cloud based subscription service are you still able to download the captivate files to your desktop to use forever even if you stop the cloud service in a year, or when you use it do you link to the cloud hosting? Is my assumption that the subscription is for creating new, or editing existing, projects?  Once a project is complete you own it and can host it anywhere you like?  Sorry if worded oddly.
  • If you purchase the product and do not use the subscription service can you receive a hard disc copy of the program?
  • I found version 6 to be fairly intuitive and easy to use.  Created many projects.  Is 9 the same or has several version enhancements also made it less intuitive?

Thanks in advance for any help.  Scott

I will try to answer at least some questions.

You misunderstand the term 'cloud' I suspect. You will download and install the application on your system. As long as you pay the subscription, you are able to download any new version, but are limited to two versions installed at the same time on your system. Projects created with those versions are on your system, not in the cloud; even when you stop the subscription, those projects (and published versions) will remain but of course you'll not be able to edit the raw files anymore.

I don't know if the permanent license still is available as a hard disk copy (I'm just a user, and downloaded the installation files).

The UI has changed with CP8, so you'll need some exploring time. There are a lot of new features as well: shared actions, responsive projects, multistate objects, to mention some.
