New to Captivate 2019 -- Can not open a new project

Just purchased and downloaded my license for Captivate 2019. My PC will open the app but it crashes as soon as I choose to create a new project or try to open an existing file. My older files open on my Mac with the trial version. Any direction would be appreciated. I feel I am missing something fundamental.
