No accessibility text for SVGs

Ok, just realized that accessibility text written on an SVG doesn't actually show up in production.

Has anyone else noticed this or had this issue? This is a huge problem for my assets. I'm going to have to redo so many assets in another tool if I want to use SVGs (and I do!). 

If I replace the SVG with a PNG, it works. 

Any suggestions if I still want to use SVGs?
