Question

No automatic TEB when recording simulations with Cp8 or Cp9 using Chrome or Edge, IE11 is ok.

I am working on some training simulations for a browser-based application, Salesforce. This is largely the user selecting text boxes, typing things in, selecting drop-down menus, clicking buttons, etc. My initial results while using Cp9 and Google Chrome were not favorable.

In all three modes (Demo, Training, Assessment) only a Text Typing box was left behind. And yes, the Preferences for these are set to Automatically Add Text Entry Boxes for Text Fields.

Reading the forums I got the sense others experienced the same thing but wasn't clear on all the conditions being described. So I did my own localized test.

I tested this with both Cp8 and Cp9 and using IE11, Google Chrome, and Microsoft Edge. Firefox is not installed.

Computer:

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (Intel i7, 16GB RAM) <-- home computer

Note: I initially experienced this on my work computer, Windows 7, Intel i5, 12GB, Captivate 9.

Adobe Captivate 8 (8.0.3.290) <-- Cp8

Adobe Captivate 9 (9.0.2.437) <-- Cp9

Preferences for Demo, Assessment, Training are at defaults, includes Automatic TEB for Training and Assessment

Google Chrome Version 59.0.3071.115

Automatic TEB are NOT created at all, only Typing Text objects.

Success/Failure Captions for drop-downs are not specific (i.e. "Select" or "Click Here")

Microsoft Edge 40.15063.0.0

Automatic TEB are NOT created at all, only Typing Text objects.

Success/Failure Captions for drop-downs are not specific (i.e. "Select" or "Click Here")

Internet Explorer 11 (11.413.15063.0)

Automatic TEB ARE created, along with variables.

Possible issue with TEB opacity, had to manually set to 100% to hide text.

Default Hints for TEB have strings from the browser (i.e. "Please type: Wayne Enterprises")

Success/Failure Captions for drop-down menus and buttons have specific strings from the browser (i.e. "Select Phone Inquiry item" or "Click the New button")

Conclusion: Only IE11 is handling Training and Assessment simulations acceptably for Cp8 or Cp9. It's possible modern browser security features are preventing Captivate from acquiring the necessary information to properly configure TEBs and their related captions.

I also wonder if this can be "fixed" in Captivate for Chrome or Edge without "breaking" it in legacy browsers.

I want to qualify my testing by saying that apparently IE11 on Windows 10 (my home system) is NOT the same as IE11 on Windows 7 (my work computer).

With IE11 (11.0.9600.18655) on Windows 7 I get something less than I want, but a little better than Chrome. Again, for all these tests I am accessing a Salesforce browser-based application with the same user/org/app, etc.  The variables are browser and Windows platform.

When recording the simulation on work computer (Win 7/IE11.0.9600) the behavior of drop-down menus is very sketchy and hard to capture. This is fine with the later version of IE11 on Win10.

There are NO Captions in the Demonstration (Win10 I get properly labeled Captions, aware of the field and button names)

There ARE Text Entry Boxes in the Training and Assessment, and Hints to the text content.

So, it *almost* works but I would have to manually add in all the Captions on the Demo. And I have a dozen demos and training sets I have to build.

I am not sure what the question here should be. Does Adobe KNOW about this glitchy behavior for one of Captivate's most distiguishing functionalities? Is there a fix in the works besides "Cp 2017" (if that even works)?

Can anyone confirm there is a product defect here?

Thanks!
