No help available in Captivate 5

Hi, when I open the help then an error is displayed that says an internet connection is required for this function. I cannot believe that adobe assumes every workplace has an open connection, so I assume this is a bug? For security reasons, we have no open internet connections on the workplaces and use a separate mailgate instead.

    Hello,

Help is an AIR-application (was already so in CP4), which means that you can have it on your desktop for consultation while offline but when you are connected to the Internet, you have access to more than only the Adobe Help, you'll have access to all links, comments, blogs, articles that are linked to this Help. Moreover whenever you connect the Help can be updated.

You'll have to connect at least once to have the AIR app downloaded to your PC. Once this is done, you'll be able to consult the downloaded Help even if offline. Hope this explains sufficiently, an Adobe engineer could explain better. You can find more information (sorry also on WWW) here:

    Hello Lilybiri,

thank you for the fast response and explanation. We tested this on another computer which we could temporarily connect to the internet. Upon opening the help, Captivate downloads the help and installes it. Allthough after closing the internet connection and opening Captivate again later, it says that it needs an internet connection again. The installed Adobe help appears in the "Programs" menue of Windows, and when I manually open it and select Captivate then the same message appears telling that an internet connection is required again.

I thought after donwloading and installing the help it would remain functionable as a local help system? Thank you for the link to the help online, this is a first aid for quick research but having a local help system would be a lot better. Also we do not use the english version.

Did we screw this up during installation or is it always required to download and install the Captivate help manually from the internet?

    Hello,

Because I'm still using a test version (was in test group for CP5), do not have direct access to Help from CP. But if it is working like CP4, perhaps turning off the Welcome screen will also turn off the automatic search for an Internet connection. Sorry, cannot try it out for you, could you check it? And if it works, please let me know? If this doesn't work, will try to get an answer elsewhere.
