No mouse-click screen captures (Cap 6)

I'm using Captivate 6 with default Preferences. When I attempt to capture a software simulation using the Automatic mode, no actions done using the mouse are captured. There is no shutter click and no slides are produced. This is true for both a mouse plugged into the computer's docking station and another plugged directly into the laptop.  Also, no screen capture is made when the countdown ends after the Record button is clicked. Normal screen captures happen when an action is performed on the keyboard (examples: typing and Ctrl + B to make text bold). I can also create a slide during Automatic recording by clicking the Prt Scr key on the computer's keyboard. I have reset Captivate's Preferences. The "Run this program as an administrator" checkbox has been selected. I have been using Captivate since version 3.0 and have never encountered such a problem.

Correct answer

I had my IT folks do the reinstall. Nothing changed.

I did some further experiments this morning and found that under certain circumstances, Captivate will capture mouse-click actions.

Before explaining what circumstances these are, you should be aware of my computer setup. I have a laptop in a docking station and a second, freestanding, monitor. At the time the problem occurred, the laptop was designated as my primary monitor and I was attempting to do my Captivate captures on the freestanding monitor, which as designated as my secondary monitor. This choice was made because the freestanding monitor has the resolution setting that most of my users have.

After I switched the Recording Window, the red rectangle, to my primary monitor (the laptop), Captivate would capture mouse-click actions. I even switched my primary monitor to be the freestanding monitor and Captivate continued to capture mouse-click actions on that monitor too. So there is still a problem, but a much more manageable one. Perhaps this solution will help others with similar problems.

You seem to have covered all the normal reasons for such a failure.  The only thing I can suggest is that you reinstall Captivate.  Make sure you're on the latest version of Cp 6.0.1 and not the earlier 6.0.  (6.1 would be better but that's only for those on the subscription plan and I'm assuming you're not in that camp.)
