No sound when published

I done some searching and can only find people wanted to remove sound.
I can't hear my audio (I checked the mute speaker)
I created a captivate. Several days later my 'voice' person recorded some audio
I've added that audio. When I click play I hear it and when I hit preview for just the one slide I hear it.
If I preview more than one slide or even publish the entire movie I have no audio - BUT I'm still hearing the typing and clicks so I know there is sound somewhere.

Any suggestions? Did I maybe record my initial movie in the wrong mode? How can you see what mode you recorded in?

Thanks,
Tracy

LOL! My apologies - also - for missing that one. If you're an idiot, I'm ahead of you in the "idiot line"!

    Have a great weekend, Tracy!

LOL! I am sure the questions make sense to you - and I'm sorry I have to ask for more info. No criticism is meant or implied, honest. The problem is, questions that can't be duplicated also can't be solved (as easily). So it all comes down to trying to get a clear picture in my mind's eye of exactly what you are seeing with your "real" eyes.

One way to find a solution when I can't duplicate the problem is to use the process of elimination, so . . .

Try this: Make a copy of the project (use File > Save As"), and mount a microphone on your PC. Go to a slide before the slides that currently contain audio (perhaps create a "Blank" slide as a new slide #1 or #2) and use Captivate's own audio engine to record audio for that slide. When done, save your changes, then test the project by pressing F4 (not F3 - never F3, because that tells you nothing about anything except the timing of events on a specific slilde). Does the "new" audio play? Does the "old" audio play? What I'm trying to do is eliminate the possibility of file-type or format issues with the imported audio files...

Second thought: Are there interactive objects on these (8) slides with malfunctioning audio? That is, do these slides contain one or more click-boxes, or buttons, or text-entry boxes? If so, where, on the timeline, is the audio file, relative to the interactive object? I'm trying here to eliminate the possibility that the audio is actually fine, but the slides are being "paused" before the audio is timed to begin on the slide timeline . . . (?)

Let me know where we are on this, okay? And be patient - we'll get it figured out one way or another.

Occam's razor is the axiom that says " one should not increase, beyond what is necessary, the number of entities required to explain anything". In your case Tracy, even that is impossible because your problem is, at best, very scantily attired.

You can't hear what audio? The slide-level audio on a single slide? Slide-level audio on ANY or ALL slides? Have you done your own trouble-shooting by putting the published SWF/HTM on a portable storage media and trying it on different machines?

You said " When I click play I hear it ...". Since Captivate has no "Play" icon on the Edit toolbar, I can only speculate that you mean the "Play" button on the playback control when watching a published SWF. Is that correct? In not, what are you referring to when you say "I click play ..."?

I can tell you what is NOT wrong. You mention the "mode" in which you recorded the initial movie and I promise that can have no bearing on your current problem.

To your last question, no, there is no way to see what mode a movie was recorded in - beyond the obvious which is to see what objects were included in the movie, or - if it was the last movie you made - to begin recording another to see what the new "default" recording mode is.

I'll wait for you to fill in the blanks before I continue further. Thanks.

I swear when I type these questions they all make sense - maybe they just make sense inside my own head

You can't hear what audio? - <b>I imported audio to several slides.</b>

    The slide-level audio on a single slide? - <b>yes</b>

Slide-level audio on ANY or ALL slides? - <b>those that I Imported audio too roughly 8 slides</b>

Have you done your own trouble-shooting by putting the published SWF/HTM on a portable storage media and trying it on different machines? - <b>YES</b>

You said "When I click play I hear it ...". Since Captivate has no "Play" icon on the Edit toolbar - <b> I mean the little play icon that appears on the timeline between the stop and mute buttons. <b?

<b>I can also click Preview (menu item) and if I select F3 Play this slide - I hear the slide audio. If I select any of the other options I do not hear the audio, but I do hear the click and typing noises that are on each slide.</b>

Does this help you to help me?
