Not playing nice with VMWare

I'm running a demo version of Captivate. I made a complete video w/ audio on my pc and it turned out great. I'm ready to use Captivate for all our markeing and tech support videos. However, most of the videos need to be made on a VMWare machine. Here are the issues that we're having:

1) Print Screen button doesn't work. I've checked the settings and all looks good. End button only works when my mouse is outside of the recording box.
2) Doesn't record keystroke typing. Only shows the end result. (same issue as mentioned above)
3) Leaves an image of the mouse at the beginning of a movement. I can't delete this mouse because it's part of the image. The only mouse I can edit/delete is the one of the end result.

All I need to do is record in VMWare. All editing will be done directly on my PC. Is Captivate not compatible w/ VMWare? If so, I'm going to be totally bummed..... It works great on my PC, but I need it to work on the VMWare machine too....

    Hi Rossco,

I'm using VMWare in full screen mode, but I have Captivate installed on the main PC. I'll try installing Captivate on the VM and see how that works.

Any idea how licensing works in that scenario? I've got 10 VM sessions on that computer.... That could get pricey.

    Thanks for the suggestion!

Well the way I see it, licensing, if you are using 2 copies of CP simultaneously , then you should have 2 licenses. If you are and can only use 1 copy at any 1 time, then you should be fine. That also goes for a 2nd person, so if you are using a copy on your VM and someone is using another copy (of yours) at the same time on any other machine, then again, you should have 2 licenses.

Rick or Larry may be able to confirm this.

    Hi,

I'm encountering the same problem as Angaria. I need to have Captivate installed on my physical machine, and to be able to create software simulations of things I'm doing on a VM. It''s not feasible to get a separate license for every VM I've got, because I have a bunch of them (I'm creating e-Learning tutorials for a bunch of different products) and I change them every few months. Is there no way - other than to have a separate version of  Captivate installed on each VM - to record software simulations on a VM?

    Thanks,

    Amanda

    Hi Angaria,
I use VMWare all the time to record apps that I don't have on my main PC and when I want to easily resize teh screen without havng to bother adjusting my PC. It works fine for me, however there have been the odd times when some of the F keys will not work, but to eliminate that I run VMWare in full screen mode. That way you don't have any mouse issues as the mouse and whole VM has got total focus and renders the main PC almost non existent, if that makes any sense...

In otherwords, in full screen, it takes control of all hardware etc.

Have you got Captivate installed on the VM or on your main PC? I have mine installed on a VM anad don't have any issues.

    HTH
