Odd happenings on a .png with anything over the top

Hi all.

Tried searching for this as someone must have had the same issue.

I've got a picture on stage and I want to put a circle over part of the picture.

So, I draw the circle and a line to my title and it looks fine till I preview.

I then get abnormal colours wherever something overlays the picture. Seems to be mostly blue at the moment but is limited to certain pixels..

The pictures are .png that I took from a powerpoint.

Any ideas?

    Hello Col,

What is the slide quality? Be sure to set it to Optimised or High.

Sorry to say so but I'm always shivering, probably due to a lot of frustrations in the past, when I hear that a graphic has 'been taken' from a MS-app and put into another app. It is so difficult to know the exact settings PPT is using: does the PNG have transparent pixels or even partially transparent ones (only PNG is capable of that) Do you have a (decent) graphical application like Photoshop or Fireworks? If yes, how does the PNG look there and do you have partially transparent pixels?

    Lieve,

Once again you have nailed it.

I upgraded the slide to 24bit and it worked perfectly! So huge thanks there!

However, between me posting this and you answering it the powers that be want those slides removed anyhow.

Still, I learned something, so today is nto a total waste!

    Regards

    Hi Col,

FYI Default quality is Low 8-bit which means only 256 colors possible. For most high-quality images, and I experienced also when you need transparancy (or semi-transparency) this quality is not sufficient at all, you need to have a large color palette. Optimised (only possible for slide quality, not when you override that quality on publishing) will look for the best solution, but do not know exactly which reasoning is behind it but it increases the filesize considerably. The choice for 24-bit is often a good choice, and you could limit it to those slides that you want to have that quality so that you do not increase the filesize that much.
