Question

On timeline, moving mouse moves topmost Smartshape

I'm working in Captivate 9.

SITUATION: My Captivate file has a slide that has a mouse movement and several smartshapes on it. In the timeline, I select the mouse bar and move it to the right. When the left end of the mouse bar passes the right end of the first smartshape bar, the smartshape bar moves with the mouse bar at a rate that is about two times the speed that I'm moving the mouse bar. The smartshape bar continues to move at this rate until its right end is aligned with the right end of the mouse bar. At which point it moves in sync with the mouse bar. When moving the mouse bar to the left, the same ratio of movement occurs, except that the smartshape bar moves past the left end of the mouse bar until it touches the beginning of the timeline.

  • This sequence of events only happens with the first smartshape on a timeline, no matter what its position in the timeline.
  • Text captions are not affected.
  • I'm careful to only select the mousebar and not any of the smartshape bars.
  • This sequence of events happens on all slides and in multiple files.

QUESTION: Is this a bug or a feature? If it's a feature, what's its purpose?

I never did see this at all, but maybe I'm missing something.

Do you see a red triangle at the end of one of the timelines? Because that would mean that the end of that object timeline is linked to the end of the slide timeline. If any object is moved in such a way that the duration of the slide is increased, that object would move to the right because its end is glued to the end of the slide timeline, but its duration will be fixed.

Maybe post a screenshot of the timeline of that slide (complete timeline, use eventually the slider to zoom in/out on the timeline).

BTW: are you on 9.0.1.320?

Hi Lilybiri,

Thanks for taking an interest in my question.

My Captivate version is 9.0.0.223.

Below is a five-screenshot sequence of what happens in the timeline. The moves you see in the screenshots are caused by my moving the mouse bar. In the first screenshot, nothing is linked to the end of the timeline. Starting with #2, the mouse bar is linked. The smartshape bar moves, but is never linked to the end of the timeline - even when it contacts it in #4..

I cannot reproduce this issue at all. More questions:

  • Please upgrade to 9.0.1.320
  • Is this a software simulation?
  • Is this a responsive project?
  • Why do you need two interactive objects with pausing points?
  • Can you post a screenshot of the stage, with the first shape button selected?
