I have looked for almost 6 months  in all the forums for an answer to using a button to open an exec. file using  "open URL or file"
I finally did it but only when getting the infamous "file download security warning".
My question is:
shoud I save my time and give up because there is no way to produce a CP4 program that will do this without generating this
warning in the users computer
?

Hello,

Wouls you mind sharing how you did that? I am trying to create a link or button from which to open a document in CP4.

Thank you!

Hi there

Linking to a .EXE is simple. Just program the Button or Click Box object with "Open URL or File". Then simply type the EXE file name. For example, MyFile.EXE. The key is NOT to browse to it or enter any path information whatsoever.

As Steve pointed out in this thread, once you post to the web, you will see a dialog asking if you want to save the file. And that's a browser thing. No way past it. It makes total sense if you think about it. If you could run a .EXE by clicking a link, someone could link to an EXE file that would wipe out your hard drive. And THAT would be totally bad.

Cheers... Rick

The warning is generated by the browser, not Captivate. It is a

standard and essential security warning. You will not be able to work

around it, and really you should not try.
