Hello,

We acquired 8 licenses Of Adobe captivate 7. we were on adobe captivate 3. So all our projects have .Cp format. Currently we can not open old project .Cp with this new version. We wish to implement a solution that allows us to convert old project format.cp to format .cptx. I want your advice for a best Solution.

Unfortunately you won't be able to convert Adobe Captivate 3 or Adobe Captivate 4 projects directly to Captivate 7. Adobe Captivate 7 only converts project from Adobe Captivate 5 and up.

The only choice you have is to convert your Adobe Captivate 3 projects to Adobe Captivate 5, 5.5 or 6 and save them. Then take this project file and convert to Adobe Captivate 7.

Also keep in mind that if you have any Flash Animations in your Captivate 3 projects they are AS2 files and most likely will not work in Captivate 7, which only accepts AS3 files.

If you don't have access to Captivate 5, 5.5 or 6, you need to find someone you that has access to one of these version that can assist you.

Today, I tried to open some old Captivate 3 files in Captivate 5 (official license) as suggested in this thread. Unfortunately, it didn't work - neither by opening the .cp file through File > Open, nor by converting the file extension to .cptx and trying to open it that way. I am able to open the original swf in an swf editing tool, but this doesn't give me access to the source files I actually need.

Any other suggestions of how to get this working? Thanks!

I would have been surprised to find Cp5 unable to open Cp3 files.  Are you certain you are using Cp5, not a later version?  Is it possible the files were even earlier than Cp3 perhaps?

There is absolutely NO way changing the file ending from .cp to .cptx would do you any good.  Captivate 5 introduced a totally different XML-based file format.

If indeed Cp5 cannot upgrade Cp3 files then you may only be able to open them in Cp4 first before upgrading to Cp5 and then to later Cp versions.  Either way, Cp3 is now a LONG time ago.  The longer you delay in updating these courses, the more likely they are to become toast.
