Opening Captivate On another computer

I recently made a project in captivate for a professor that I work for.  I am trying to send her the project so she can review it, but she's not able to open it because she doesn't have captivate on her computer.  Is there a way she can see it without downloading captivate? She seems to think that she's seen captivate projects before through a website.  The only thing I can think of is an FTP, but I'm not very familiar with them, and don't have access to any.  I am going to try to publish the project to Youtube, but I think that will cause it to lose some of the capabilities (such as answering quiz questions). Please help!!!

I hope Rod doesn't mind me tagging along here to his excellent post, but if your professor wants to/needs to send you comments about your project, perhaps an alternative might be the Collaboration feature of Captivate.  I don't know what version of Captivate you have, but 5.5 and 6 both have the option to send someone a Review file (with a .crev extension), along with the Adobe Captivate Reviewer AIR application.  They can open your review file, play your project, add comments where appropriate, and the comments can be sent back to you.  In version 4, the option is in the Publish dialog.  In 5.5 and 6, it's under the File menu.  And the professor (or any reviewer) does not need to have Captivate installed.  Here's what the Help file says about it:

Sending projects for reviews

Sharing projects for review on an internal server

  1.   Select File > Collaborate > Send for Shared Review.
  2.   In the Send for Shared Review dialog box, type a name for the review file (CREV file) and then select Automatically Collect Comments From My Own Internal Server.
  3.   Click Next.
  4. Use the following options to create the CREV file:
    Publish Folder
The location where the CREV file is published. Click Browse if you want to specify a different location for the generated files.
    Project Comments Folder
Select this option and choose a shared folder, either on your computer or on the network, for storing the comments. Ensure that you provide write permissions to the folder. The path to the shared location must begin with a double backslash (\\) on Windows. On Mac, prefix the path with smb://.

If reviewers do not have access to a shared folder, you can choose not to specify a location for the comments. In this case, you can ask the reviewers to export their comments to an XML file and send the file to you.

When there is no shared network, you can choose not to specify a location. The reviewer must export the comments and send them to you. When you import the contents of the XML file, the comments are embedded in your project.

  1. Select Send Mail, and do the following:
    •   Select Attach Review (.CREV) File if you want to send the CREV file as an attachment along with the mail. Use this option when the size of the CREV file is small enough to be sent by e-mail. E-mail filters are usually configured to block e-mails that are larger than a specified size.
    •   Select Attach Adobe Captivate Reviewer if you want to send the AIR installer as an attachment. Use this option the first time you send a CREV file to a reviewer.
  2.   Click Email. A draft of the e-mail appears.
  3.   Customize the body of the draft if you want to provide additional instructions to reviewers.
  4.   Enter e-mail addresses of reviewers in the To and Cc fields, and click Send.
Important: Best practice is not to edit the Adobe Captivate project during the review. If the project changes during the review, the posted comments might not appear at the intended locations. If you must edit the project, ask the reviewers to stop their work. Then start a fresh review after editing the project.

Here, we generally publish to an internal web server to test out then have some custom javascript to collect feedback from reviewers.

Having seen your message I wanted to try out the reviewer and see if it would provide any process improvements for us.

However, when I got to the publish screen and I enter the email address (to: & cc:, my own) Captivate fires a message "Enter a valid e-mail id."

Any idea what's wrong?

No, no idea.  What version of Captivate?

You could publish as PDF and email it to her (providing the filesize is small enough to email) or you could also publish as EXE and zip it to email.

Thank you for your response, but could you be more specific? How would I publish it as an EXE and where do I publish it to?

Look in the Publish options under Media. There it enables you to choose EXE. If you also tick the ZIP option it will zip the EXE file ready for you to attach to an email.
