Optimal Screen Resolution?

Is there a best practices when it comes to screen resolution for which your computer should be set to for recording a software simulation and which resolution to choose when creating the Captivate project? I've seen some older posts which I thought might not apply as much since resolutions have gotten much larger since then. The majority of our staff probably use a combination of computers with resolutions set to 1920 X 1080 and 1280 X 720. I'm sure there's even probably some 1024 X 768s out there too. My computer is currently set to 1920 X 1080. I was thinking of choosing the 1280 X 720 option when starting the project and changing my resolution to 1280 X 720 for my software resolution to record the simulation. What do you think?

If responsive, then I suggest a Desktop breakpoint of 1280. That's as wide as Captivate 9 goes, which unfortunately is not wide enough, IMO. The VAST majority of desktop displays are widescreen nowadays. Here in the US, I don't think you could even buy a 4:3 display from your local Best Buy if you tried. I haven't seen one in a corporate environment in years. But this is also a benefit of responsive - so long as you work with your breakpoints then you shoudl be able to adapt the course.

If that's too much work for you, then you can just use the scalable HTML5/fullscreen options : )

The best choice is for you to experiment and test, focused on your users!

Delivery of content is a very user and organization specific choice these days!

Look at how your materials will be used, from enterprise managed desktops. laptops, and projection systems?

Does your organization support BYOD (bring your own device)?

If that's the case, your users are free to choose their hardware, OS and browsers. In this case the best approach it to talk to your IT group and see if they are gathering data on the hardware, OS and browser combinations that are being used.

You'll want to ask if there is a trend report that can be viewed on demand so you can track adoption of new browsers and OS distributions after release.
