Question

Optimising animation for both swf and html5 publishing

Hi

I'm in a bit of a unique situation where a piece of content I've created has a SWF animation, it's a cinemagraph so gif isn't suitable due to the reduction in quality and also because Captivate needs a gif with 0.1 delay.

The issue is we're in a transition phase with LMS's at my work and need to publish the SCORM with both SWF and HTML5 selected. So when someone accesses it from say an iPad it will serve the HTML5 SCORM and if someone accesses it from a desktop it will serve the SWF.

I can create the exact animation as a .oam file via Animate CC.

If I put both animations layered on top of one another, is there a way in Captivate to tell it which version to serve or will the right one just appear based on the format the learner is viewing it in.

I recognise it's not the most efficient way of doing things, but wondered whether there was a work around.

Also if I leave it as a SWF animation, when viewed in HTML5 will it just show a static image or will the animation just not appear?

Hi Rod

This is absolutely perfect and seems like it could be a valid solution. I'll do some testing and see how I get on with it.

Thanks

There is a System Variable called cpInfoMobileOS that will show a value of 0 for Desktop, 1 for iOS and 2 for Android OS.

I've not had to do this in practice but you could try using this System Variable in a Conditional Advanced Action executed ON Slide Enter of the slide where the cinemagraph is located to determine whether to show it in one format or the other.
