Pause / Break Shortcut Key

Hi all,

I'm simulating a computer app where, to clear the screen, the user presses the "Pause" key. I inserted a click box and assigned the "Pause / Break" shortcut to it. I have set it to go to next slide upon success. I have the click box appearing and pausing the slide at the appropriate time.

On both the preview and published files, the Pause key doesn't work to go to next. It just sits there ... like it's paused.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I did some more research, and if you believe what you read on the internet, it is a problem with Dell laptop keyboards. I've sent a message to Adobe with this issue ... but not holding my breath for a solution.

Hi again, does anyone have any ideas on this Pause key issue? Thanks!

    Hi Melissa

If I were in your shoes, here is what I would probably try. Generate a Standalone (.EXE) version of your file. Then test the shortcut in that.

Here's why I'm suggesting this. Some keys simply refuse to work when you view in the browser. Yet the same keys work fine in Standalone. I'm not sure if Pause/Break would be a key the browser would be interested in. In thinking about it, I can't fathom why it may be. But at least the test will probably confirm whether it's an issue with the click box or if it's just the method of displaying the final output.

    Cheers... Rick

    Hi Rick,

I actually did test that. I "published" it as stand-alone and tried it, and the same thing happened. I agree with you that sometimes things don't work exactly the same way if you're in preview.

I've got it set to advance to the next slide upon failure after one attempt, but again, the Pause key seems to be actually pausing the tutorial itself. So I have to press another key (any key works) to "unpause" and advance to next slide.

I'm wondering if I can rig it so the user presses the Pause key and the tutorial reads it as a failure and advances? (Short of actually getting the Pause key shortcut to work, that is )

    Thanks!
