Hi, developing a E-learning for our company and I am running into an issue when inserting video.  Our goal is so that the user cant just click "NEXT" "NEXT" "NEXT" through the elearning.  Is there a way I can pause the slide so the "next" button wont show until after they have watched the video in its entirety?

Limiting course progress until certain elements have been watched or read is tricky.

On one hand you need to trust your learners but on the other hand they will often skip things to finish faster.

What are you implementing regarding checking learning has taken place?

Are you re-visiting the topics covered in the video later? If so they will not be able to answer, write up or feedback the relevant information if they skipped the vide to begin with.

Why are they watching the videos in the first place? This is your main focus.

Like mentioned Storyline makes this a breeze!

If bulletproof progress limiting is really required than you could use a text entry field for learners to enter a password (revealed at the end of the video) to progress.

Or you can usually time a button to come in at roughly the correct time once a video has been launched as a pretty good method.

    Hi there,

You could try replacing your 'next' button with a button that shows some text that says 'Please watch the rest of the video before progressing', and then have your actual next button timed to come in once the video has ended.

    Would that work for you?

    Hope that helps!

The short answers is: you can try!

I've uploaded video to YouTube in a private list under a corporate id.

When I call the video from Cp, I time it so a button fades in about 30 seconds from the end, and the slide pauses about 30 seconds after. Our stores have various speed and latency issues, so there is a lot of variation on when the button appears to the user.

But, for us, I can't time it to the second, it would chop the video off for some users and let the users with faster internet connections skip the video.

Unlike its nearest rival Articulate Storyline, Captivate has no run-time event that fires when a video file finishes playing.  If it did, you could use that event to SHOW a hidden button.

This is something I believe is long overdue for Captivate.
