I added an audio file to my a slide in my adobe captivate project and im having difficulty inserting playback control for the audio. The default playback control the comes with the slide controls the entire slide. I need to to control the audio independent of the slide.

Can someone please help me out on this.

Thanks

Hi,

I agree with RodWard, you can use interactive objects to control the Audio on a Specific Slide,

for Example -- On button -- Properties--> Action -- On Success : Choose-- Assign operation -- to Variable cpCmndMute--- value 1

Additionally, you can add a specific Playbar Widget on that Slide, but I guess it would not serve your purpose because the Slide as well as widget are in sync and would mean the same.

I am also curious to learn your need for playbar for specific Audio control.

Thanks,

Anjaneai

Hey Anjaneai and Rod...

I have audio on the main timeline in Captivate 5.5. My audio is timed exactly with captions which appear on each slide. So I would definitely need to have audio and playback of the slide stop at the same time the user press PAUSE on the controlbar.

Hitting the Pause button stops the timeline, and if your audio is at slide level, then it stops/pauses too.

Muting the audion doesn't stop the timeline in and of itself.  Assigning the variable cpCmndMute--- value 1 (if that's all you did) would mean you weren't hearing the audio, but if the timeline was still playing, your other objects would continue to animate without sound.  You'd have to rewind the slide to hear the audio you missed.

So it really depends on what you want to have happen.  If you want to pause the slide audio, you have to pause the slide as well.

Captivate does not provide a separate audio control for slide audio.  You only have a couple of choices.  You can add the audio to the slide and that will mean you can pause or play audio via the playbar controls.  Or you can add audio to an object on the slide (highlight box, button, caption, animation, etc) and that will mean that the audio will start to play as soon as that object becomes visible on the timeline.

Overall, you will find it easier to use slide audio and control it with the playbar.

Why do you need to control the audio independent of the slide?

But the playbar controls the whole project, or is there a way to make the playbar control a single slide?

Captivate's playbar does not have an option to make it only control a single slide.  Other applications such as Articulate Storyline work that way, but then they don't have the option to make their playbar control the entire project timeline.

So, if this one issue is THAT important to you, perhaps you would be better building your e-learning in a different app.  On the other hand, if this is just a minor "wouldn't it be nice if" type of issue, then stick with Captivate.  It has a lot of other reasons to make you prefer it.
