Question

PNG and Captivate 9

I have created a bunch of illustrator images that have been exported as PNG files.

When I import the files into Captivate 9, the dimensions of the files balloon to an obscene size and when the images is resized to the Stage size, the image is blurry.

The quality looks better when viewing at 100%.

I am am curious how to import with the correct dimensions to keep the clarity of the original png.

Why bitmap PNG when CP9 accepts SVG = Scalable Vector Graphics? One of my favourite new features in this last release:

Hi Lilybiri - I am learning about SVGs in eLearning modules and Online Learning Environments. Some people are stating that SVGs do NOT work in OLEs. Could someone clarify why this might be if true of SVGs? What are the restrictions for using SVGs in Captivate modules (i.e., Captivate 9) if there are any?

    Thank you !

Also - I just tried importing the SVG that I made in Illustrator into Captivate 9, and it appeared extremely blurry. Even worse than the PNG that I tried before this. I don't think I see the advantage.

Also, I exported the file from Illustrator at the exact same px as fit on the Cap 9 stage, so I did no resizing in Captivate. Still appeared extremely blurry.

Open to any help on this...thanks....

Simply create the original PNGs at exactly the same height and width in pixels that they will be displayed at when inserted into Captivate.

So if the image will be 640 pixels high and 480 pixels wide on the Captivate stage, then that's the size you need to make the PNG file BEFORE importing.

    Thanks, Rod.

It seems that I neglected to mentioned that I am creating the original vectors to the size of the captivate stage.

When I export the PNG of say 640 pixels high by 480 pixels wide and import the resulting image, the dimensions balloon up to 2400 pixels high by 3400 pixels wide (This is a rough estimate -- the sizes are much larger than that).

i have double checked the resulting dimensions on the file on my desk top, it matches the stage that I set in Captivate.

Throughout the process when they are overblown and reduced to size of the file, they are blurry and low quality. I hope this better explains the issue I am encountering.

OK.  I have never actually witnessed this issue.  But then I tend to use PhotoShop rather than Illustrator.

If you have Adobe Illustrator perhaps you also have PhotoShop?  What happens if you bring your PNGs into PhotoShop and check the dimensions of the image there?  What does it give you as the size?

Also, are you forgetting that a typical computer monitor's resolution is only about 72 to 96 DPI?  If you have your images set for a resolution of 300 dpi or higher, perhaps this will explain the difference.
