Position Properties missing Captivate 9

Hi all,

I made the mistake of playing with some of the Preferences in Captivate 9, specifically Enable custom workspaces/panel undocking.

Screen Shot 2017-01-18 at 6.22.04 pm

I didn't like what happened so undid preference and restarted Captivate. Now the Position Tab is missing from the Properties Inspector. The Position option does not appear under the Windows menu at all. I changed the Preference again and restarted Captivate again. The position tab appears as a menu item but it is greyed out.

I have reset the Preferences,   Cleared the cache, restarted Captivate several times. Tested to see if problem exists across a range of projects, it does. Restarted my computer (MAC) and opened Captivate again, problem still exists. I don't know where the folder that holds the Preferences resides to rename folder and see if that gets rid of the problem.

Can anybody point me to a solution on this one please?

Amanda, you still didn't answer my question: are you talking about a Responsive or a Normal Blank project?

There is NO Position tab for a blank project: what you are looking for is under the Options tab in the Properties panel, which is the last tab for any object, whether it is static or interactive.

Only for Responsive projects, where positioning and sizing is much more important since they have to be set up for all the breakpoint views, do you have a Position Properties panel. In the newbie UI it should pop up automatically with the Properties panel. If it is not happening you have to choose it from the Window menu. It will be docked automatically in the right docking station.

If you don't see the Position Properties panel for a responsive project, or the Options tab for a normal project, something has corrupted in the Preferences. Close Captivate, look for the subfolder 'utils' under the installation folder of Captivate and run the CleanPreferences file suited for your OS.  You'll need administrator rights to do so.  It also is recommended not to let the cache grow too big. If you want to keep some customisation, have a look at this article:

Captivate 8.0.1 Install? Keep your Customisation! - Captivate blog

The advantage of the expert UI is that you can create a workspace for blank projects which is different from the workspace for a normal project. I also create a workspace for setting up a project theme, and for quizzing. But it is fine if you want to use the newbie UI, and let Captivate decide which panels will be visible.

Are you on the latest version 9.0.2.437?

I also discovered that in Captivate 2019 if you are publishing in Scaled HTML5 the positions properties is greyed out.  I looked for this off and on for months and couldn't figure it out initially as I was focused on finding the tab.

You can locate the position info here in scaled HTML5 projects:

  1.  Select your object.
  2.  Go to the Properties tab.
  3.  Select Options.
  4.  Under Transform you will find the X,Y, and height & width coordinates.

The Expert UI which yu do not like offers you a lot more control, but that is a choice of course.

It depends on the project you are working at in the Newbie UI:

  1. For a normal (blank) project, there is no Position panel at all. Both the X/Y coordinates and the size W/H of an object (+ rotation for most of them) can be found in the Options tab of the normal Properties panel. If you don't see it, please clean the Preferences.
  2. For a responsive project there is a Position Properties panel. if you don't see it, try open it with the WIndow menu, where all panels should be available, although in the Newbie UI I'm not sure because Captivate controls that UI.

UPDATE:

I kept on resetting, selecting enable custom workspace, close and open captivate, deselecting enable customer workspace, close and open captivate till, eventually, the position option appeared on the Windows drop-down menu. Eventually, with enable custom workspace selected, the position tab option was selectable in the Windows drop-down menu. I found, by accident, that if I started with position option first, then timing and finally properties, each showed in the side panel, and in the drop-down menu it showed as Property Inspector selected. Reset preference, deselecting enable custom workspace. Closed Captivate, restarted, and hallelujah, all tabs in the property inspector available.

UPDATE: Problem still exists - position tab does not have the elements required. Problem still exists.
