I have used Captivate 2 for a year now and just recently upgraded from PowerPoint 2003 to 2007. Now, Captivate 2 will not import these files. Anybody have a solution or is Adobe going to supply a fix?

Hello Everybody! Ok, so I'm a Simpson nut. Anyway, I can export to PP 2003 but then I lose some of functionalities and new features in 2007. So, PP2003 is not the answer. However, I did not think of running the PP and recording it with Captivate 2. I'll give that a try. Thanks.

Hopefully Adobe will be able to provide some fix besides forcing an update to Captivate 3.

tkentire,

Have you tried saving the PowerPoint files as a PowerPoint 97-2003 Presentation? As Rick said, PowerPoint 2007 has a new default file type (Pptx instead of the old Ppt) - Captivate 2 will not recognize these.

If that doesn't work, then you will have to uninstall Office 2007, reinstall Office 2003 and then do a side by side install of Office 2007 and Office 2003 (they can co-exist on the one computer) - I can confirm this works fine for me.

Can anyone confirm whether you actually need PowerPoint installed on your machine to do the import - just wondering.

Thanks,
Donal

Hi tkentire and welcome to our community

It's likely that Microsoft changed the format of PowerPoint files in this version and as a result, Captivate doesn't understand them. Likely there will be no "patch" to make Captivate work with this version. I'm guessing that instead, Captivate 3 will probably be compatible with this version.

However, you *can* still get PowerPoint into the existing version of Captivate. You may do this by simply displaying a PowerPoint presentation and recording it using Captivate as opposed to sucking in the PowerPoint file.

Cheers... Rick
