PowerPoint Import and Edit

We are evaluating Captivate 3 and its ability to import PowerPoint. It appears the slides cannot be edited once imported? It looks like they are flattened.

Can anyone tell me differently?

Thanks

  1. Captivate 5 has a problem with importing shadows correctly.
  2. PPT audio sound will not play in captivate. You have to apply the audio in Captivate, but this does not start at the same time as PPT.  The audio clip needs pushing forward on the timeline to delay its start. This messes up the animation timings.
  3. I also have noticed that the last bullet/number point in a series will not play with out clicking-sometimes twice. The slide does not advance automatically even if set that way.
  4. It seems to be a help if you do not use the text boxes that are pre-set to Master backgrounds.
  5. Try setting each bullet point into a separate text box, then aligning and verticall distributing them in the Alignment tab on the ribbon.

Are you able to add the rollover slidelet feature to an imported Powerpoint slide? I have been looking at Presenter which does not appear to have that feature.

I've noticed one fairly serious drawback to importing Powerpoint files into Captivate.

Everything on the Powerpoint slide is imported as an image. So, if you have a text box in the Powerpoint slide with several lines of text, you can't modify the individual text lines.

Also, if you have animation associated with each line of text in Powerpoint, or animation associated with an image, the animation goes away. If you want to have individual lines of text appear with audio voice over in Captivate, you have to delete the image that was imported from Powerpoint and re-enter the text using captions in Captivate.

Having said that, it's not always a bad thing, since it allows you to closely set everything on your slide to the specific timeline. But, if you have someone on your team who does the storyboard in Powerpoint, you end up having to do lots of re-entry to duplicate the animation in Captivate.

Hi,

Adobe Captivate 3 allows you to import power Point slides as animation too. By doing this, you keep the animation in the powerpoint intact as it will (should) play inside Captivate as it was in a PowerPoint project.

To import PPT slides as animation, once import dialog box appears, select "import as > animation". This should import all PPT slides as animation.

Hi MV, thanks for your response.

Yup, Captivate allows you to keep the animation. The only problem is that you can't adjust the animation once it's imported. Where the Powerpoint slide lets you adjust individual elements, the imported slide in Captive just shows the slide as one big animation. If you want to change the timing of the text to match the audio, Captivate won't let you do it.

Welcome to our community, Scott

Indeed, importing PowerPoint flattens the image. However, Captivate does offer an ability to open the flattened image into an image editor of your choosing.

How do you use an image editor to edit the flattened power point slide that Rick mentioned?

Welcome to our community, comtn

If you open the Library panel, you are able to locate the image there, right-click the image and choose Edit or Edit With. From there you simply choose the editor of your dreams.
