Hi,
I have just recently downloaded the trial for Captiveate2 and i am looking to import a single slide from PowerPoint. I click import Powerpoint slide - select the file it runs through the file but then hangs and does not display any thumbnails - Nada Nothing. It hangs then i have to force it to close. It is only 1 slide not a huge powerpoint presentation. Any ideas?

This is strange...
One of my window 2000 computer has no problem to import PowerPoint slide to Captivate,
but the other Window XP cannot....
I've done the Power User Permission and Flash Player things but still cannot import slide from PowerPoint...
The Window2000 Captivate has no problem but the slide which imported from PowerPoint to Captivate is FLATTEN in to an image, i couldn'd change text and image....is this normal or i've missed some steps when i import the slide from powerpoint?

This is normal. Imported powerpoint slide comes as a flattened image only.

Hello again cbeck79,

Could you please try the following and let us know if this solves your problem.

1. Uninstall Flash player using the Flash player tool available here:
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14157
(ensuring that it is not used by any open browsers or application using the Flash player control).

2. Install the Flash player Active X again.

Please do let us know if this doesn't work as there might be a more complex fix for this one.

Regards,
Mark

Thanks for the reply's everybody.
I originally tried setting the permissions on User on the Program Files Adobe Captivate 2 folder but that did not help.

I uninstalled flash player and reinstalled it and it works a treat. I have both IE6 and Firefox and realise there is an issue with Flash Player 9 and IE6/7 could this have something to do with it?

Thanks again Everybody.

Cheers

Chris

Hi cbeck79 and welcome to the community

Sounds like Captivate 2 may have the the same issues Captivate 1 did if there aren't sufficient permission levels set.

Click here to read a technical note about this

Additionally, here is a copy paste from a thread on the subject where someone named "SecurityNazi" posted a workaround:
Understood...however, the average user is also unable to add themselves to the Power User group in such a scenario. Either solution would require a Systems Administrator to make the change.

We've tested a few things, and it seems we've found a fix....of course, this would need to be modified as a Systems Admin, but once accomplished, it seems the user is able to import the files with no problem.

FIX: As an admin, drill down to C:\Program Files\Macromedia, and change the user permissions on the Captivate folder to "Modify".

This solution enables us to maintain the OS's integrity, and yet allows the user to still make use of this functionality of the software.

Hopefully this helps... Rick

Hello cbeck79,

What version of PowerPoint are you trying to import? Also, would it be possible for you to let us see the PowerPoint file so that one of us could test it for you. In order to do this you could use a service provide like yousendit.com

Simply, upload the file. In the email section of the website, give your own email id. once the file is uploaded, it will give you a link of the uploaded file. also the link will be sent to your email id.

Mark
