PowerPoint Import Not Working

I have used Captivate off and on for several years and have created a lot of eLearning, but this is the first time I need to import something from PowerPoint.

I have a straightforward PPT file, that I opened and saved using the current version of PPT.

When I try to import it I get this message, even though the file opens and runs fine in PPT.

I exported the PPT to my Mac, opened it and saved it in the current version of PPT for Mac, and tried opening it in Captivate 9.  It starts, but hangs up at "Importing slide 1 of 41"

Based on another posting, I saved the PPT as .ppt rather than than .pptx and it worked.

Adobe, what is going on here?

Thanks.

You have posted this on the Adobe User Forum.  This is not Adobe Support.  People from the Adobe Captivate development team sometimes watch threads here but you shouldn't regard this as a direct line to Adobe.

As for your issue with the PPTX files needing to be saved to PPT, that's been the way that Captivate worked for several versions now.  I have no idea why Adobe hasn't invested development budget in having this issue fixed.

But then if I really WAS Adobe I would have ditched PPT workflow a long time ago.  It's not the best way to create courses with Captivate.

Thanks Rod.  I agree this is not the best way to do it, and this is why I have never done it before, but I had a specific need for this.

Thanks for pointing out this is the way it has worked for a while.  I don't recall having seen that until today when I was searching for reasons it wasn't working.

It does seem odd that Adobe would not address this for a feature that they advertise.

As far as I am aware, Adobe only advertises that you can import PPT files into Captivate.  I don't know that they get too specific about which file formats work and which ones don't.  The other side of this is that you're working with a MAC, right?  There are quite a few things about Captivate that work better on a PC than on a MAC.  This might be one of them.
