Preloading icon appears and remains when a course is reloaded into the LMS

We have an issue where a person goes through a course from within the LMS (SCORM 2004, v3) and it marks complete. The course was updated and those files replace the files in the SCORM directory (of the LMS server). When the user returns to that "updated" course, the preloading spinning icon appears on a white screen and stays there - the course is not launched. We "believe" it is because the bookmark data from the original course remained somehow and when the updated course tries to launch, it can not recognize the original bookmarks and seizes up. This is our theory. Is there a way to set Captivate to recognize if a pre-existing bookmark is set, to bypass that and just go to slide 1? Or if a course is uploaded/updated, to set code somewhere to "zero-out" or reset the bookmark?
