Preview in Browser and HTML5 generates error notepad output

Whenever I try to preview a project in either a browser of HTML5, it only opens up Notepad and displays the following error:  "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."  This is a new installation of Captivate 8 and the machine is running windows 8.1

I am experiencing this same issue. Tried all of the above, but to no avail. What else can I try?

By any chance, have you set Notepad as the default application for HTML files?

No, I did check that. I have Firefox set up as default Browser in my Windows 8.1 PC.

By the way, I installed Captivate 8 on my other PC (which has Windows 7) and the project previews fine (as long as I changed my default browser to Explorer instead of Firefox).

There must be something funky about the way Captivate works with Windows 8. I would like to get this figured out however because my Windows 8 PC is where I would prefer to do my voiceovers. Having to do them on one PC and then move them to another is a PITA!

    The solution is simple:

    Go to Control Panel

    Select > Default Program

Select > Set your Default Programs

Select > Internet Explorer or Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox

Select > Choose defaults for this program

    Click > Select All

    Click > Save

    Click > Ok

    Hi Dmensinger,

Can you please clear your preference folder and re-launch captivate and verify if preview(swf and htlml) works fine.

Are you seeing the issue with any new blank project or it is specific to a particular project ?

    Regards,

Not sure exactly what you mean by "clear your preference folder".  Under preferences I cleared my cache, relaunched captivate, and created a new simulation.  I got the same sort of result:  the notepad file is generated with the same error message.

I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling it.  That didn't help.

This is a 64 bit version running on windows 8.1.  Could that be a problem?

    Hi Dmensinger,

Please follow below steps to clear Captivate preferences.

    1) Close Captivate.

    2) Go to : C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Adobe and delete Captivate 8.0 folder

    Relaunch Captivate and verify.

Please mention your current default browser name and its version.

Also, can you please publish a captivate project and view it in browser and check if it is working.

    Regards,

    Haridoss
