"Preview" looks bizarre

I am just starting with Captivate -- reading manual, watching tutorials... pulling my hair out...

So when I click "File - Preview" and "this slide" or "from this slide," it shows up with my caption text in black boxes instead of white with the text in sort of white outlines, an odd black stroke shows up around all the objects, and the sound plays immediately rather than waiting until clicked.

What am I doing wrong?

Normally slide quality should be Optimized then, can you check?

Which style did you use for those text captions? Transparent?

Always use preview entire project or preview in web browser. It can be buggy previewing single slides or even next 5 slides because the project can be intertwined.

Hello, welcome,

First tip: mention the version you are using. I suspect that it is 6 or earlier. At that moment the default slide quality was Low, and that could be the reason for your  problems. Change it to Optimized (now default) or High.

Don't use Preview slide, it is not a real preview, only meant for synchronizing. Best preview is 'in web browser', but any of the other ones is also OK.

I don't understand what you mean by 'audio'. If there is audio on a slide, and since autoplay is default, it will start playing. You don't want AutoPlay? Go to Edit, Preferences, Project, Start & End and there you'll be able to turn off AutoPlay

Thanks for your reply, Lilybiri. My version is 7.0.0.118.

I think "autoplay" was the issue. I now have audio attached elsewhere though from experimenting, so I'll start over and see.

I'm going to attach a screenshot of the preview image.... The caption text should look like the default, nothing like this...
