Preview options are missing from Preview in the project ribbon after 11.8.1.219 update

After I've updated Captivate to version 11.8.1.219, I've lost previously available preview options within my project, specifically - Preview From this Slide and Preview Next 5 slides.

Does anyone know how to get these options back? Any help would be appreciated!

Not really...those options were no longer valid since they used a temporary SWF output and Flash player was no longer supported

You are working on a non-responsive project. The only valid Preview method since the death of the Flash player was F11, Preview HTML in Browser, which I have written over and over again in this forum. Now the team took out the non-valid Preview methods. There is now even a bug in UI IMO: Preview Project and Preview HTML in Browser are both doing exactly the same, hence their sharing the same Shortcut key F11. Play Slide is NOT a preview method as you probably know.

My workaround to have a quicker navigation has always been the use of a TOC (in overlay) with full navigation functionality to allow quicker navigation to slides.

I regret the documentation is not mentioning this.

Revert back to 11.5. I did this and have not regretted it.

Just ran across this issue myself, and I know that development decisions are never based on what users actually like and use. The loss of "Preview from This Slide" is HUGE.

This removal is the poster child for the perfect being the enemy of the good enough.

I hope you read my first answer? The Previews you mention were not to be trusted since they relayed on a SWF preview which could be very different from the final HTML preview. I sincerely regret that the correct HTML Preview methods which work perfectly for responsive projects were not transferred to non-responsive projects, but I am just a user like you and it is the CP team's decision. BTW they also took out slide transitions, which didn' work for HTML output but worked for MP4 publishing, and all learning interactions (which worked fine for HTML as well).

Thankyou Lilbiri, but it doesn't matter the reason- any software company worth its weight could solve this! I am tired of excuses and ulterior motives from Adobe software.

This is REALLY annoying. I just want to quickly preview the page I just made. I don't want to wait until the entire project publishes. Or am I missing something here? Even if I use the TOC, I STILL have to wait for the entire project to publish, right?

If you have installed the latest Captivate build of 11.8.1 then previous Flash SWF-based preview options have been removed from Captivate 2019.  (Flash is dead, remember.)

You will need to wait for the next new major version of Captivate in the hope that some of these preview features might be restored but in HTML5 format rather than SWF.

I get it. Thanks for the reply.

It was just completely unexpected and a time saving feature that I use constantly. I'm going to go back to the previous version until then.

Edit: Found the update notes

Thank you for the info. Yea, I'm editing a non-responsive project.

I've gotten used to inaccurate preview no matter what preview option was chosen and I've been OK with good enough (we've encountered errors or behaviors never apparent even in HTML5 preview until loaded into our LMS, which, who knows where the issue lies).

I've relied on the Preview Next 5 slides a lot just for a quick preview of a couple slides to get a ballpark idea without having to wait for the entire project to load for preview.

Thanks again for the info.

I know... and regret that all the Preview methods are available and have been available with proper temporary HTML output for responsive projects. My hope was that they would now also be available with localhost output for non-reponsive projects, but that hope has been idle. Why they two options with different wording but identical output are left is a mystery as well.

Try the workaround with the TOC. It has helped me a lot because I was aware of the non-validity of all the other preview methods since years.
