Problem running exe iles after they are uploaded

I'm getting the following error when I try and run an exe file created in CP3 from the web:
NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction, CS:Oddc IP:0592 OP:63 65 6e 74 65

I created exe files for 4 quizzes created in CP3, uploaded them, and created links to them from a single html page. All four files were created in exactly the same way, but I cannot run one of them from the website,
I have tried rebuilding the file and re-uploading it and have re-created the html link in case of errors. The file opens without a problem from the local drive.

Any help on this would be much appreciated, I'm at a loss.

    Hi niamhc

In addition to what Eric offered, I would ask if you have tried clearing your browser cache? Sometimes a file doesn't come from the server intact and needs to be downloaded again. Maybe that's the case here and clearing the cache could change the behavior.

We put our Captivate training exe's out on a website for download. Our customers are getting this message when they choose Run in the "Run or Save" download choice.

To test your previous answer, I chose Save which allowed me to save the .exe to my hard drive. That was successful. But then the demo wouldn't run when I double-clicked it on my desktop.

These demos used to download and run just fine until I made some minor changes and reposted them recently. I'm using C3.

    Any ideas?

    Hi Laura

Perhaps you have a security setting on the PC that is prohibiting the EXE running?

I suppose you should also ensure the PC is able to display Flash content. You could test that easily enough by simply uploading a small Captivate in SWF/HTM format to your server and test from the server. If it plays fine, the PC is Flash capable. If not, you probably need to install the Flash Player on the PC.

    Hi Rick,

    Thanks for the quick response.

I don't think that's it. We've had demos posted on our site for a couple of years now and customers haven't had trouble. I run Flash on my machine all the time so that's not it. This is a problem that started when I rebuilt the demos and reposted them recently. The only change I made was to remove the expiration date from each demo -- I can't imagine that would be causing the trouble we're seeing.

I’m going to rebuild the training exe’s and repost them to see if that helps.

While this doesn't really address the error you're getting (or maybe it
does at some level), you created .exe files and are trying to run them
from a web browser? What's the HTML link to those files? If it's a web
URL, that method likely will never work. You can download .exe files to
your machine then run them, but you generally can't run .exe files from
    the web.
    Why not publish as SWF?

Thanks you Rick, clearing my cache worked, i can't believe it was something so simple having stared at it for so long!

Erik, I do usually publish swfs as they are preferable but unfortunately the swf output for quizzes in CP3 is too complex for the website i'm dealing with. The site simply wasn't created with things like this in mind it simply doesn't work.
