Problems using Captivate 3 content in Captivate 5?

Hello All,

I have recently upgraded my system to Captivate 5.  All our training content was developed using Captivate 3.

We have about 3 years worth of lessons in the Captivate 3 format.  I thought it would be "duck soup"

converting from Cp3 to Cp5.  Wrong.  I have converted all our content to the cptx file format.

On some quizzes and slides (mostly quizzes), the very first slide flashes a solid blue background, and the shows the normal background with the playbar, etc.

I am using a skin created in Cp3 - but just a change of colors - nothing fancy.  When I place a new slide in front of the

first slide, the same thing happens.

Any ideas?

This seems not to happen if I create a project from scratch in Cp5.

Eric

If you've just jumped two versions of Cp when upgrading projects I think it's fair to say that you're quite likely to encounter a few issues.

The formats between Cp3 and Cp4 were different, but from Cp3 to Cp5 it's a totally different animal.

You may find that you'll need to recreate some questions in Cp5 to get them to work correctly.  I also find that I usually have to recreate the Quiz Results slide as well in Cp5 otherwise I get wierd issues with the buttons not appearing as expected.

You'll probably need to create a new skin entirely in Cp5 to match the one you brought over from Cp3 in order to get rid of your issues.  It doesn't matter whether or not the skin was "fancy", you're just better off with a skin that is native to Cp5. The good news is that once you have created this skin (and given it a unique name) it should be available from the Skins Editor drop-down menu from then on, meaning that you can easily apply it to all your other projects quite quickly and easily.

Bottom rule is, when upgrading projects to Cp5 from previous versions, you have to expect that not everything works first time.

Hello RodWard,

you have some good points there.  I have discovered some of the issues you mention.

As you say the quizzes are somewhat problematic - particularly on using quizzes created

in Cp3.  Thanks for the helpful information - I plan to put it into action.
