Hello,

I created captivate project with the free version 2017. My organisation has a licence for captivate 9. But I get it after, when my projects were done in 2017 version.

I cant open the projets done in captivate 9 ?

How can I convert the files to be opened with the version 9 ?

Thanks for help

This is probably very bad practise, might have all kinds of ugly side effects not instantaneously apparent, and thus should be considered an absolute last resort - use at your own risk!

    Having said that...

I was able to (kind of...) transfer a simple project from Cp10 to Cp9 by doing the following:

    • Make a backup copy of the Original Cp10 project file
    • Change the file extension of the Cp10 project file file from cptx to zip.
    • Open zip and find info.cpi file in zip's root
    • Extract and open info.cpi in a text editor
    • Change version reference at the beginning of the text string to new version;
e.g.: to open Cp10 file in Cp9, change ...10.0..192... to ...9.0..437... or whatever are the exact version numbers you deal with
    • Save info.cpi and copy back to zip archive, overiding the old file
    • Change file extension back from zip to cptx
    • Open in Cp9 and check everything thoroughly. Don't expect everything to work right away without amendments. Features newly introduced in Cp10 will of course not work. Features updated in Cp10 might lead to problems.
    • Here's the main catch - there's no point saving this in Cp9, as next time you'll try to open it won't let you in again.
Instead you'll have to copy over all the slides into a new project and save that.

This is as close as you can get, I guess.

I'm not sure if projects created that way are not very likely to become corrupt very easily or are in any other way problematic, so don't do this if you're not ready to take this risk!

Sorry, but there is no way. You can open a CP9 file in CP2017, but not the reverse. That behavior has always be the same for Captivate.

You didn't specify which type of license you have: perpetual (with a serial number) or a subscription license? If it is a subscription license, you can install both versions parallel with the same license.

There is no option to save a project from a later version of Captivate to an earlier one.

You need to recreate your projects again in Captivate 9 or else persuade your organisation to upgrade their licenses to Cp 2017.
