Question

Project Information vs. TOC Information

I am building some courses in Cp2017.  I will not be responsible for the SCORM deployment, so this question deals more with the manifest as opposed to the presentation of empirical information.

Each course has 2 locations for information about the course:

1. File > Publish settings > Preferences > Project > Information (contains entries for Author, Company, E-mail, Website, Copywright, Project Name, and Description). This window also displays Time, Resolution, Slides, and Hidden Slides.

and

2. Project > Table of Contents > "Info Box" > TOC Information (contains entries for Title, Name, Designation, E-mail, Website, and Description). This screen also has some Theme settings and a button titled "Project Information" which copies some of the fields from item 1 above, though the titles don't always match 1 for 1.

For publishing in Moodle (client's new requirement), which of these should be filled out, or should both be completed?  Hard to understand why there are two locations for some of the same information, while some items are mutually exclusive.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Even if you are not the one personally responsible for loading the SCORMs into Moodle, someone will still need to enter the SCORM information into the Captivate CPTX file before publishing, otherwise you won't be creating a valid SCO.

The dialog where you enter the SCORM information that will be used to build the imsmanifest.xml file is this one, reached from within the Quiz > Settings dialog.

The other locations you mentioned may affect what is displayed in the TOC, but they are not what you need for the SCO.

Thanks Rod. It seems the 2 locations I've cited are kind of optional and define some system variables, I was aware that the primary manifest would rely on the settings you demonstrate.

Thanks again to both of you for your help.

Data entered into the other locations you specified will indeed populate certain default Captivate system variables.  But most LMSs do not look at that data for SCORM reporting.  They are mostly used only for display during the lesson playback (if needed).

I have answered the same question recently, why is it repeated again? Difficult to find the other thread here, but my answer was never read there.

You can transfer the information stored in File, Project Info to the TOC. That information is stored in the system variables of the category Metadata, and can be used anywhere in the course as well.

However you can want to change the infomration which appears in the TOC, it is totally up to you.

Which one you need? Up to you. Not everyone wants a TOC. I often add the system variable cpInfoAuthor to the main Master slide. The system variable cpInfoCourseName is used in the certification interaction. Only two examples of using the fields, stored in the system variables.

Thank you for your quick response.  I'm not sure who asked this before but I can assure you it wasn't me, as this is the first time the issue has come up for me. I appreciate your guidance on this.  Thank you.

It just seems strange, because in more than 10 years I never encountered this question, and it now appeared twice in a fortnight. Sorry, I hope you are not offended.
