Can anyone please help?

I try to publish to word handout.

The publish progress states completed with a nice green tick.

Then all of a sudden an error appears stating" Error encountered... blah blah... Please check Word is not busy and try again."

No word document is created.

Annoyingly yours

For adoh!be

- Go to your "C:\Documents and Settings\ *your profile*\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates"
- Delete the file named "Normal.dot" before you start your export
- Be sure as well not to have any remaining "Windword.exe" process running following your first attempt and Word closed [ check in your task manager]

This is what I have to do and it works fine . (and about the "normal.dot" , dont worry every time Word is launch that file is recreated)

Can anyone please advise?
I have just checked C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 3\Gallery\PrintOutPut and found Lesson.doc , Storyboard.doc and Step by step.doc ....
wait for it ..... THERE IS NO Handout.doc.

Can some please send me a Handout .doc (which is the conversion template) ?

Hi again adoh!be

That one is a bit of a story. Captivate version 1 only offered Word handouts and there were no Storyboard, Step by Step and etc. Word handouts are handled programmatically by the Captivate application.

But version 2 introduced the other layout types. For those, they added the Word document templates. So now, if you choose Word handouts, I believe the Captivate application uses internal coding to create the document file, while choosing any of the other types will result in using the Word documents you found as the templates.

Hi ...Adobe,
Did you in fact navigate to the \\My Captivate Projects\ folder and physically check to see if the DOC file was or was not there? I am sure you did, but it doesn't hurt to check, since you especially noticed the little green check-mark indicating completion.

I don't need to know whether the *Blah Blah* contains any useful information. I know it does not. But there is no question that Captivate has become *disconnected* (for lack of a better word) from Microsoft Word.

I am sure you did check to be sure that Word was not in use at the time, as Mr. Howard suggested, so that only leaves (based on the error message) the idea that sometimes Word can be busy without being used by you. For instance, if you are on a network workstation your IT person might be auto-updating all copies of Word - or if you are stand-alone, Windows web-updating might be active at the time.

Or have you perhaps installed a newer version of Word? If so, Captivate might not have been updated with the new path. It is also possible for RAM memory addresses to become scattered (memory *leakage*), in which case a reboot might help.

Just offering suggestions that might work to solve the problem for you. Let us know if anything works for you.

best wishes~

Larry,

I changed the export path to a local drive on my C:\ - wasn't in there.
For good measure i also checked the project folder you suggested - nope!

Prior to runnign the export I check, via task manager - processes, and word.exe is not running.
After trying to export and getting the error - word.exe is running as a process!

I was originally on Service Pack 1 and tried to install captivate.
A folder was created on my desk top but did not install as it needed SP2 or higher.
I then installed SP2 and tried to install again.
It wasn't the smoothest of installs as i had to reboot when the CP screen was showing it was doing something with fonts. - it was just hanging.

After rebooting i clicked on the cp icon and it all appeared to work ok until trying to export to word handout!

Any more ideas?

cheers

Hi adoh!be

We had another person in the forums over the past week that also had issues with Publishing Word handouts. I don't see anything mentioned here with regards to which version of Word you have, so that may be worth checking. In the last person's case, they were using Word 2000. After upgrading Word, the Publishing Word handouts began working for them.

Not sure if upgrading Word is a possibility for you, but thought I'd toss it out as a possible fix, since it seemed to work for the other person.

Hope you get it sorted... Rick
