Question

Published files use absolute path - how do I make it relative path?

I have created a menu that works just fine on my machine, but does not work on others. Getting the message "Cannot find ... Make sure the path or Internet address is correct." These files will go up to an internet server that large numbers of people will use. Using Captivate 2, is there a way to publish with relative path or do I have to know the exact path of the location where the files will reside?

    Welcome to our community, Janice

Are we assuming that you are talking about opening other Captivate projects from one project? If so, I would ask how you created the links initially.

Assuming that's what we are referring to, I would guess that you created the links by using the Open File or URL option. Then browsing to the HTML page of the other Captivate.

If I'm correct in my assumption, this is why things are breaking. Instead of using the Open File or URL option you should be using the "Open other project" option. With that option you browse to and choose the .CP file of the project you wish to open. Once you establish the link that way it should work without issue. Don't sweat the fact that you are browsing to a .CP (Project) file and your user won't have Captivate installed. Many Captivate authors stumble on this and can't wrap their minds around it. Internally Captivate knows how to sort things and the end result is that the other project will simply open at playback time as long as it is present. Usually it's best to just place all the linked files in the same folder location so they may find one another.

    Cheers... Rick

Your assumptions are correct. I will try your approach and look forward to problem-free results. Thanks!
