Question

Published htms and swf work differently on different machines

Hi,

Though its been okay to create, I cant believe the kind of problems I face after the files are generated!

I have 4-5 movies in one folder. Some of these movies have a quiz element. And some others have a few simulations (user interaction). I generated the htms/swf and tested the movies files on my PC (and on a few others that have similar configuration) and the movies work fine.

However, my counterpart in another location has a lot of problems with the generated output:
1. At the end of the Quiz, she needs to click the Next button (to start the next movie) twice or more.

2. Some movies 'run on their own' meaning that she doesn’t have a click any buttons to go to the next slides. This is not intended or the way it works on my PC.

3. Clicking the Next button in last frame of a movie throws a 404, the first time. This error doesn’t occur when she clicks it the next time.

4. Some buttons have to be clicked 2-3 times, even within the swf (not just the buttons on the last frame)

I am relatively new to Captivate, and cant figure out the problem. Would appreciate any help/pointers with this.

Thanks
DG

    Hi DG

Problem #1: This behavior is probably caused by the Quiz element waiting for the "end movie" command (quiz results) before continuing to the next movie. Try adding a blank slide following the final Quiz slide. That should allow the movie to display scoring results, after which it can move to the next movie...

    For the others ...
    1) Be sure that your links are to the HTML file, not the SWF.
    2) Be sure that all files are in the same folder.
    3) Find out what version of Flash Player the "counterpart in another location" is using --- advise upgrade as necessary.

Beyond that, you just haven't given us enough specific information about verified problems for us to offer definitive help. Since the problems don't seem to appear on your own machine, we would need to know the environment that your "counterpart in another location" is viewing the movies in, and detail about how you constructed the links,or other elements that aren't working properly . You are asking us to troubleshoot problems appearing on a remote 3rd party machine ... so best stay with standard testing procedures - such as:

    1) One-line description of a single problem (don't say "this and this and this doesn't work" - treat each as a separate issue.
    2) Steps to duplicate (every time) the problem (Step #1, Step #2, etc.)
    3) What behavior you are seeing
    4) What behavior you should be seeing

Thanks for whatever help you can give us in helping you.

    Hi Larry,

Thanks for the reply - I'll just check the Quiz setting like you mentioned.

I am forwarding this email to the concerned people and ask them to give me specific information you've asked for. I did wonder if this is more about the OS/IE/Flash player version problem than anything else. I'll revert when I have more information.

    In the meantime, thanks :)
