Question

publishing

Calling all captivate gurus, I need some help here.  I created a projects whose links work perfectly when tested and published using the Flash (swf) format.  However, when I publish the same project using the Media option so that the project can be burned to a CD, my swf links open in a new browser window and the following message displays:  Your requested host "features+capabilities.swf" could not be resolved by DNS.

So, my question to you Captivate Experts is, how can I prevent a project that has been published using the media and auto run .exe option from opening up links to swfs into a new browser window?

  1. First and foremost, I don't want a browser window to appear at all.  There is no http:// listed in the file path.
  2. Second, I've selected the "If the user clicks on the button... on success: open url or file.  The file name is entered in the URL: option box, the file is in the folder where the .exe file is contained, and no other folders are incorporated within this folder.  Just the files.

Here's the path and message that appears:

http://features+capabilities.swf/

Network Error (dns_unresolved_hostname)

Your requested host "features+capabilities.swf" could not be resolved by DNS.

For assistance, contact your network support team.

Here's that path that's entered into the URL option box:

Features+Capabilities.swf

Is there a specific path that needs to be inserted to force the link to just open the file that's specified in the url: option box?

If anyone has any insight to assist in resolving this publishing problem, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi there

What happens if you replace the ( + ) with the HTML entity equivalent of %2B?

Hi Rick,

I gave that a try, and it produced the same results:

http://240a-features%2bcapabilities.swf/

Request Error (invalid_request)

Your request could not be processed. Request could not be handled

This could be caused by a misconfiguration, or possibly a malformed request.

For assistance, contact your network support team.

This is so bizarre. Why won't it link directly to the file contained in the folder?

Hi there

When you enter the code for the link, are you entering the http:// part or is that just happening when you attempt to view it? If you are entering it, that may be the issue. Perhaps simply type the file name as in: 240a-features+capabilities.swf. Or more likely, 240a-features+capabilities.htm.

Cheers... Rick
