Question

publishing as html5

I am trying to view my recent Module using Adobe Captivate 2017.  I saved it as an zip file HTML5 only project and when I try to view the new zipped file in my local drive I get the loading (spinning) picture in the center of my screen and it does not load.  It does this for both Internet Explorer and Google Chrome.  My other projects pull up fine that I created as an zip file HTML5.

Did something change within Adobe Captivate 2017 recently or is there something in my preferences/settings that I have clicked on or off that would cause this to not pull up?

Help!! : )

Thanks,

Dan Kramer

You publish to a .zip file...

Then how are you opening the main HTML file on your desktop?

Are you just double-clicking the .zip file, then double-clicking the HTML file within it?

If so, that's the problem. You have to UNzip the zip file to a folder first (or just don't publish to .zip).

If you are trying to open the HTML file from a *folder* (not a zip file) and it's not working, that's the risk of trying to test locally.

Captivate content is pretty much intended for web delivery, so if you want to properly test, you really need to upload the piece to a web server or LMS and test from there.

If your output is a SCORM .zip file, setup a free account on the SCORM Cloud site and test there.

I'm unzipping the file to a folder first by extracting all like I've

done on 4 other projects without an issue and now ran into this bump.

I publish to my computer first as an HTML5 folder.  I then create a new

folder for example titled "Introduction to UltiPr Webclock EXTRACTED

12182017. I then go to the original folder and right click select

Extract All. Select Browse. Select the drive and folder to place the

    extracted file into.

I have 6 steps listed from a different project that I created.  Someone

from Adobe called me a couple weeks ago and gave me these instructions

so that the file would work.

    1.   Create a new folder where you would like to place the

    extracted

    file.

    2.   Right click on the folder you wish to view

    3.   Select Extract All

    4.

    Select Browse

    5.

    Select the drive and

folder to place the extracted file into.

    6.

    Select Extract

An HTML5 project needs to be run from within a web server environment in order to function correctly.  When you are just trying to run it from a local hard drive or network drive folder you can run into problems with browser security blocking the content from working.

If you do NOT have a localhost web browser set up on your computer to use for testing HTML5, then you will need to upload the published output to a webserver somewhere and then test it from there.

Alternatively, if the content is SCORM (and that's why you were zipping it) then upload the SCORM zip to SCORM Cloud online LMS and test it from there.
