Question

Publishing .EXE with Controls (Skin)

Here is my situation: I'm trying to make this as user friendly as possible. I want the ease and quality of the .EXE with the controls of an SWF. For whatever reason the skin does not show up with the EXE. Also this wouldn't be a problem but the SWF skin version is getting blurry and squished together.

thanks,
Shallaay

I have this same issue otherwise I have to deal with the unfriendly user instructions to install trusted files for all nine of my projects which is impossible. Can this be accomplished?

Hi scottindc and welcome to our community

First off, are you under the impression that because you had to trust your Captivate project in order to play it on your PC, that you will have to install or otherwise advise your users to trust your content on their PC? If so, my question to you is this. Are you planning on placing your Captivate content on their local PC or are you planning on pushing it to a server on the web and allowing them to view it that way? If the former, then .EXE output is probably a wise choice. But if it's the latter, your worries are unfounded. Once you place the content on a server, the issues you see as the Captivate author melt away. Because of the way the server interacts with the browser, there are no security issues to deal with.

Secondly, it would seem that both you and Shallaay are under the impression that publishing your content as .EXE format means you cannot use the playback controls? I've played with it a bit and it seems to publish the controls just fine. So I'm unsure what the issue is. Perhaps if you could answer back with specifics, we could better assist you.

Cheers... Rick

Thanks Rick This is a hot product I look forward to getting a good working knowledge of it soon. First I am attempting to use it on 2 fronts from the web and you are right no issues there. The CD version is a challange. To keep the size down I broke it up into logical modules about 9M each. Then using menu builder (exported as an exe) I am calling each module. Each module is setup as an standalone exe. In addition I also have modules calling the next standalone via the end product option.

I just republished on of my modules in standalone mode and then ran it in view mode and from explorer and still have no controls at the bottom. The output options are full screen and flash player 7.

I did call support and the guy, though hard to understand, mentioned that it all had to be one directory is that correct.

Let me know your thoughts I'll contue to play with it.
