Question

Publishing project locks up Captivate

Hi. I have a one slide project that has a lot of informtion on it. I have a properly sized swf video file embedded that is 45 meg. Ouch. I also have background music and an audio file narration on the slide. Other than that, it is just some captions and a couple other standard size images. When I play the slide in Captivate, it plays fine. But when I either try to view the project or publish it, Captivate stops responding and I am forced to close the program. I am suspecting it is just too large, but don't know what else to do. I could possibly break into a few different slides, but that doesn't flow well with my narration. Any suggestions or fixes available out there in Captivate Cyberland?

I think many people get into same preview/publish problems!!!
I've this experience before, but now I've solved (output filesize around 27mb with many FLV video embeded):

1. FLV import-- don't select Option/pause slide till end of video";if this option selected, preview/publish will freeze in swf tag.....

2.BUTTON which cross over with SWF in timeline will affect SWF, and cannot smoothly play and sometimes freeze when preview~!

Hi all

I would stress to anyone reading this that while the options Lulu_Malaysia mentioned MAY have an effect, her report of them being any sort of workaround is the first and only I've heard. So I'm more than a bit skeptical about it being any form of a cure all. I didn't see FLV import mentioned here at all, so I'm fairly confident FLV factors into this particular issue.

As for the Button object mentioned, this too should have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with any ability to publish and everything to do with playback of what was created using Captivate. The button bit boils down to pure logistical issues. Normally folks pop a button on a slide and become confused because it pauses the slide. That's its default nature. Stop all movement until it has been interacted with by the user.

Sincerely... Rick

I am adding more to the problem. I am now noticing that Captivate is locking up, regardless of the project I am in. It locks up at the Compressing SWF files...it gets about half way and then stops responding...EVERY time. My projects are all different sizes and I have been able to publish all of them prior. I did have some automatic Windows updates install today. I know nothing about how to deal with all that but I am wondering if it screwed something up in the way Captivate publishes or compresses files? Help!

Hi Rick. I tried renaming that file you suggested and it didn't work. So I went in and deleted the new one that was created. It still does not work properly. When I try to Preview, it hangs up half way through Compressing SWF file stream, and when I try publish, it hangs up and freezes at Saving SWF files. How frustrating. It was working great yesterday so the only thing that has changed is the stupid Windows updates. Otherwise, nothing. ????
