Question

Quiz and advanced actions

Hi,

I'm looking at uploading a 5 elelment multisco quiz project to an LMS.

If the user gets above 80% I'd like them to go on to the next item, either by selecting on a TOC or automatically.

As its a multiSco I cant "greyout" each item individually untill they get the pass grade, as the LMS treats the MultiSco as one big project.

Whats the best way to manage this? (i.e not allow the user to go to items two or three if they havent passed one)

I'm thinking that I should do all the conditional stuff in captivate using advanced actions and let the LMS just record the scores

Is there a better way. It feels like you loose control of captivate when its in an LMS and so should I let the LMS do all the conditional choices.

thanks

KBN

Rod correctly points out that Advanced Actions will not help you for this purpose, unless you have all slides in one project instead of having a multisco project. In that case you could control access by advanced actions. But the drawback is that you'll have only one total score reported to the LMS! Although you can show the individual results of the quizzes, by means of user variables.

HI Lilybiri,

thanks for replying.

auto continue only works on the LMS in only the items are multiSco. Otherwise you have to get the user to manually close it

Can you tell me what would be the best way to have a multiSco LMS project but restrict the user from clicking on item 2 or item 3 untill they have completed item 1?

At the moment I'm uploading each item as a seperate SCORM package in moodle then I can grey out the items 2,3 and 4  untill they have passed the quiz etc, but this won't let me auto continue.

regards

KBN

You are correct that Auto Continue is intended for multi-SCORM courses.

The sequencing rules I spoke of before are included in the SCORM 2004 standard.  Last time I looked Moodle only really supported SCORM 1.2: http://docs.moodle.org/20/en/SCORM_module

It sounds like your LMS may not be up to the task that you want it to perform.  Your current workaround may be your best option.

I'm afraid you think wrong.  Advanced Actions in your Captivate course modules aren't the answer.  You can set the passing percentage score to be 80%, but once the module closes, it's up to the LMS to handle which one loads next.

This kind of sequencing has to be handled in the LMS.  It's what SCORM 2004 was designed to do.  If your LMS doesn't have the ability to configure these sequencing rules when you set up your SCORM course then you're somewhat cornered.  Most LMSs have an option to AutoContinue to the next module when the previous one closes, but not all support SCORM to the extent that they allow you to utilise the powerful sequencing rules that the standard allows for.
