Quiz Bug Workaround?

Hi all--

I've read through many other problems folks have had with Captivate quizzes, but didn't see mine. The details:

    • When the user fails a quiz (scores less than 80%), they are allowed to continue in a lesson, eventhough they are supposed to have to pass to continue.
    • I have tried several possible workarounds, such as setting the quiz to jump to a different slide when a user fails, but nothing works.
    • I'm using Captivate 5, but the same problem appears with 4.

I feel like there should be a way to solve the problem with Advanced Actions, but I'm not an expert with them and what I tried did not work.

Any help would be most appreciated...I'd even be glad to buy you lunch if you ever visit my beautiful home city of Portland, Oregon, USA.

Thanks so much!

I contacted tech support, and after lengthy conversations with those in higher levels, I was told that this feature simply does not work; there is no way to report fail results and prevent a user from continuing. The feature is built into the software, but it doesn't work--amazing. I find this shocking and just another frustrating aspect of Captivate. Instead of constantly adding new features, I would prefer they improved the functionality of existing features. Still, if anyone has developed a workaround, I'm all ears!

Hi RickReynolds1,

If you just want to prevent the user from continuingthe course if they fail in the Quiz try the following.

Go to Edit>Preferences>Quiz>Settings, select 'Pass required, user must pass the Quiz to continue' option from the 'Required' drop down.

This setting will prevent the user from continuing the course if they fail in the Quiz and if you want the user to retake the Quiz if they fail in the Quiz enable 'Retake button' from Preferences. To do this,

Go to Preferences>Quiz>Pass or Fail, select 'infinite attempts', 'Show retake button' checkboxes.

These settings will add a 'Retake quiz' button on the Result slide and will show up only when the user fails in the Quiz.

Hope this helps

Thanks,

Nimmy Sukumaran.

Hello,

How did you test? Was it uploaded to a LMS, and if yes, which one?

About advanced actions, I published several articles, some of them about Quizzes. In this blog post you find links to 4 of them:

I'm just testing locally...I want to keep it simple for now.

I'll take a look at your posts, but have you heard of this bug? It's very simple to replicate: just create a quiz with one question and get it wrong. I cannot stop the lesson from continuing with any of the fail options.

Thanks for the help.

Still no luck. Anyone have any ideas?? It seems like this might be a common problem.
