Question

Quiz reporting to an internal server

I am trying to set up a LAMP server to have Captivate report quiz results to. Here is the problem...I have researched and cant find any real solutions (everything is different and based on olser versions of Captivate).

Published the course and setup to report quiz info to internal server. Take the quiz, says Post all answers, click yes, comes up and asks for name and email. Enter the info and click Send. Comes up with the unknown error.

What am i doing wrong? Is there a detailed explaination of how to set all this up?

Thanks in advance.

To be quite honest, if you are going to need to set up a LAMP or WAMP or XAMPP server just to try and use the Internal Server option in Captivate, you might as well just download one of the Moodle installer packages do everything all in one go.

The Internal Server solution uses PHP.  So does Moodle.  But while the Internal Server solution is very, very basic in what it gives you, Moodle is a full-fledged LMS with tight security and quite good reporting right out of the box.

If your web server is running on Windows, use this package from the Moodle people themselves:

https://download.moodle.org/windows/

If your webserver is running on some other OS such as LINUX, then a Bitnami Moodle package might be more your thing:

https://bitnami.com/stack/moodle

My point is that if you are going to go to all the trouble of setting up PHP just for the Internal Server option, go with Moodle/PHP/MySQL and get yourself an entire LMS that allows you to upload SCORM packages right from the get go.

Thanks for the input. Using moodle was going to be my next step. However, the reason i was wanting to test the internal server option is because it is for a govt project and dont think they will allow us do download unauthorized programs.

Thanks though. i am definately going to mess around with moodle on my home network.

Thanks

I think you will find that Moodle is likely to be the LMS most widely used by government institutions, especially if you happen to be talking about government run education.  This is because Moodle is a lot cheaper than most other LMSs of equivalent standard.

If you are alreday needing to get permission to set up a web server with PHP to run the Internal Server option, then the only extra component you really need for Moodle is the MySQL database behind it.

Another thing you need to be aware of is that the Internal Server Reporting option requires use of the Adobe Quiz Results Analyser tool to view the results. This app still ships (at the moment) with Captivate 2019.  However, this tool is actually an Adobe Air app, which means it is very similar to Flash SWF, and that could mean it won't be around in future editions of Captivate.

Given the number of technical issues that are usually encountered getting this option to work, very few people that I have seen on this forum trying to set up Internal Server reporting find it a satisfying experience.  Your mileage may differ.  However, due to the possibly cloudy future of the Internal Server Reporting option I would still be looking at Moodle.

I've not done this myself but am aware that there are some steps that people typically miss. Did you follow the steps on this Adobe Help page?
