Quiz result reporting by email in Captivate 7?

Hi there,

I've just upgraded from 5.5 to 7 and used to use email reporting for quiz results. There doesn't appear to be this function in 7. Am I correct, or is this done another way?

Mank thanks in advance,

Matt

Emailing data from Captivate without a web server and not wanting to buy a widget?

I know this is a little old BUT I think I have a somewhat stop gap solution for this issue. This issue has plagued me for a long time. Currently, I send email results by using the not so exciting mailto: button to open the email client (which increasingly more and more people are not using thanks to advances in webmail and OWA... email clients will be irrelevant soon) and send a message that the user must add such as First Name, Last Name, and Email. I have custom edited the mailto: code to have a special subject line as well as line breaks in the data that is sent. This is all good and dandy but still wanting that seamless transition.

Also, a learner cannot access the screen that ask you to email your data until you have actually passed the test. Achieved in the quiz preferences with pass/fail actions. The email button screen will never show if you haven't passed... just the retake button.

So... here is my stop gap v1.1... use the "web objects" interactive drag n drop to basically iframe an online form provider such as hubspot, wufoo, etc. to load where the user can enter their information and press sending... bypassing all of the email client launching nonsense. No more mailto: button... just an iframe loading the customized 3rd party online form provider. Again, the learn cannot access this screen unless they have passed the test.

I'm in an Adobe Connect & Captivate platform and it really is sad that Adobe Connect doesn't allow this natively. Afterall, I can send emails out all the time with Events in Adobe Connect from admin@acrobat.com.

Weird and inconsistent functionality for such a great product in other areas. There is no doubt that Adobe Connect is the best out there as well as Captivate but this feature really, really needs to be added somehow.

    I hope this helps someone.

    Hi Colin

    Interesting workaround.

One thing that I've not seen mentioned in this thread is that if someone simply uses email for reporting, there really isn't an easy way to accumulate data. Perhaps you want 100 users to take a quiz. And you want to know overall, how many users scored 50 or above. You will find that you have to plow through 100 different email messages performing a copy and paste of data to perhaps an Excel spreadsheet. Quite a waste of time when considering that other options exist that are far more efficient.

    Hi Rick,

Yes. I agree with you 100%. Different scenario though.

I'm not using the data for building a report... I'm simply using this data as a notification or email alert to let us know who/what/when just passed our certification curriculum aka exam. This happens immediately, too.

Even better yet, it emails our ticket system which will then allow our sales folks to see the ticket and follow up with the client. That is why this email alert or notification feature is so useful in this scenario.

Adobe Connect will not let me create a custom notification that says.... "When a learner completes the curriculum (by passing the exam at the end), send an alert to the sales folks so they can follow up with the client (the learner)."

Having an email alert keeps me from writing reports several times a week just to see who else has passed the test and manually sort through all the data and pass onto sales.

Now that was quite a waste of time and very frustrating.

This way... I can let the technology work in the background 24/7/365 and can get back to building eLearning courses.

Thanks for mentioning you point because that is very true. I feel sorry for the person having to aggregate individual responses. Been there, done that years ago. No fun. Adobe's reporting feature is top-notch when aggregating data.

    Thanks,

It seems as though they have removed the "send email" button. But you an still have an email generated at completion of the quiz.
Go to Quiz > Quiz Preferences > Pass or Fail
You can then set the If Passing Grade > Action dropdown to Send email to and fill in the destination address
Repeat for the If Failing Grade > Action.

    Hi there

Indeed the option to Send E-Mail is still there. But keep in mind that there is a big difference.

The previous option had the possibility of sending the Quiz Data, either as embedded text in the body of the message or as an attachment.

All the option you are outlining does is open the E-Mail client.

    Cheers... Rick

THanks for the clarification Rick. Is there anything that will email the data now?

Email reporting is no longer an option since Captivate 6.

You may need to look into Jim Leichliter's (www.captivatedev.com) email reporting widget.
