Quiz somethimes getting stuck; no Results slide; Cp not responding message

I am using Captive 9 on a Windows 10 machine with 16GB RAM. The Captivate project I am working on contains 55 slides of which 8 slides are "knowledge" questions (not scored) and 10 slides are multiple-choice slides (scored) selected randomly from a quiz pool. For some reason, when previewing the project, the quiz often, but not always(!), gets stuck at slide 4 or 5 and will not move beyond that point. The quiz is controlled with a "Submit All" button. There is a "back" key but no "skip," "clear," or submit keys. The times that the quiz successfully runs through all 10 questions, the results page does not display.

It's a real puzzle as it had been working fine until a couple of days ago. The one thing that was changed was that a certificate (and text input to capture the learner's name) was added, basically to try it out, and then removed. The quiz slides have been edited quite a few times to adjust for placement, etc. Is it possible that something was deleted that should not have been from a quiz slide? Is there any way that I could check for this?

The pause does not appear to be tied to any one specific quiz slide and, as mentioned earlier, can pause at slide 4, slide 5, or slide 10.

Another, possibly related, problem I am experiencing is that I get a Captivate Not Responding message often! It typically resolves itself but can take a few minutes to do so.

Any suggestions?

I asked about cache because you mentioned CP not responding message. You can also try to clear the Preferences, running the CleanPreferences file for your OS which you find in the subfolder Utils under the installation folder.

Hot fix has not listed an issue like that: Hot fix | Adobe Captivate 9 issues

Check the version number: after installing the hot fix it is 9.0.0.230.

Is it a big work to delete the offending quiz slides and recreate them? It has been a while since I used Submit all feature. What is happening when you take it out (just to try) and use normal submit buttons? What is the Required setting for the Quiz?

Thank you for replying so quickly!

I was very excited as clearing the cache seemed like it should work but, alas, it did not. New behaviour though ... this time it stopped at question 3 instead of 4, 5, or 10.

Read that there is a hot-fix available. Is there a way to determine whether or not this hot-fix has already been applied and do you think it would help?

Clearing the cache does seem to have resolved the "not responding" issue. Hope it continues!

I will try the ClearPreferences (though it sounds like that means I would have to re-do all of my preferences?). If clearing the preferences does not work I will first try to remove the "Submit All" and go back to individual feedback. It would be too bad as submit all is more to what we were looking for but if it doesn't work it doesn't work. Deleting the quiz and recreating it is not ideal mostly because of formatting the content required for three breakpoints. Even with the GIFT import it still takes a good chunk of time and this is just one small project. So, I would rather try to find a fix that can be applied to all of the projects should this happen again in the future.

Thank you for your suggestions. Very much appreciated!

Look like the project is getting corrupted since it has worked. When did you clear the cache lately? Do it with the project open, so that its cache is nor cleared (can be used to create a backup if the backup file is also corrupted).
