My Rating Scale (Likert) option is greyed out and I am unable to select this.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is?

You are probably in a Responsive Project? Likert questions are not available in that case.

I don't suppose you have any tips on how to expand the length of text of the question in a Rating Scale e.g.

My question look like this at the moment:

                                                                                                                             Rating 1 Rating 2 Rating 3 Rating 4

1)blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

blah blah blah

2) blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

blah blah blah blah

No matter how far along I move the rating scale to the right, the text in the actual question never expands further along, so that the text doesn't go onto the next line below. It always looks like the above, e.g. the text always goes onto the line below, instead of expanding along the main line.

I really want it to look like this below:

                                                                                                                            Rating 1 Rating 2 Rating 3 Rating 4

1) blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

2) blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

I almost never use the Likert question, one of the reasons being that formatting that question is even more restricted than for the other types. The answer captions cannot be resized, answers will just wrap. They are not in a separate text container but share a text container with the radiobuttons.

I have an alternative: using the radiobuttons interaction, which you can configure to be either horizontal or vertical. Or use the MCQ as a survey question.

Thanks for the tip, but I can't see how the radio button widget would allow me to have this layout, the same with the multiple choice option.

When I have tried both, neither would allow me to have the layout I showed previously. And I have too many survey questions to use the multiple choice option over multiple pages. e.g. I have 5 sets of question blocks, with 8 individual responses per question block. Therefore the survey would be over way too many pages.

I was originally quite excited by the possibilities of Captivate, but the more I use it, the more frustrated I am becoming by it's limitations.

E.G. The inability to edit widgets fully e.g. removing something simple like the backgrounds would have been ideal, but again you can't do this and they become irrelevant as an option for me.

Can you specify that it was indeed a Responsive project? Is the question answered, or were you using a normal blank project?

yes I am using a responsive project
