Hey all. I am trying to use Captivate to capture a phone call. I have used a plug in microphone in the past, however have not done so trying to capture a webinar. I need to have the phone line run into the computer to have captiviate to record.

Please advise.

Thanks.

Camtasia can record meetings - do it all the time.

    Hi Richard

Indeed, Camtasia may well be the better tool for this. It's because of the inherent way Camtasia records VS the way Captivate records.

I think this is what Larry was saying. I think Larry was thinking that in order to record a meeting this way, one would want to kick off full-motion recording and record the whole movie. This would be a bad idea for Captivate. You would end up with a single slide that you couldn't edit if you did this. But I could see where you might record a meeting using Captivate and taking screen captures here and there while possibly also recording audio.

Camtasia records a large AVI file that you may later edit like you can the Captivate slides.

    Cheers all... Rick

SilentBob'secretfusion, the answer is "yes", I've tried capturing WebEx / Breeze / Connect meetings and invariably, file size will kill the project after just a few minutes ... and I have a pretty "beefed up" machine.

Not to quarrel, but just the opposite, to find humor where I find it: Rick's suggestion that you put a suction cup microphone to the telephone is akin to offering to add an amplifier to the sound system on the Titanic ... so the ship's drowning passengers can bettter hear the band playing as the ship goes under.

Experimentation is an excellent learning methodology, so if you have the time and inclination, by all means, try it out! But to repeat myself: The correct answer is - Captivate is not designed to record web-conferences.

Hmmm.. I am tempted to try. It will be about an hour. Have you tried to do this before? What is the longest event you have captured with Capitivate?

    Hi SilentBob'secretfusion

One way to capture phone conversations is by simply acquiring the right equipment. Of course this will depend on your phone, but for about $10, you may purchase a nifty little suction cup microphone that attaches to your telephone handset and plugs directly into the Microphone or Line In input of your PC.

Of course, fellow Adobe Community Expert Larry's adivce is best if the webinar has a recording. But if you are trying to capture live, the suction cup microphone may help out.

    Cheers all... Rick

You have the wrong tool for the job you are trying to accomplish. Capturing a webinar implies you want to capture "live" data and audio, and Captivate is just not equipped to handle the file size that would result from using its "full-motion" for a task like that.

Just as an aside, in most cases the software used to present a webinar is also capable of recording the live transmission, and making it available to authorized persons. That would be my first choice in getting a keeping a recording of a web conference. Just a thought ... but in any case, I don't think Captivate is the best tool for it.
